Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

I have been thinking about this issue a lot lately so it's nice to see it well articulated. This administration reminds me a lot of the weak African regimes in the 1980s in terms of the downward spiral of corruption, authoritarianism, and tribalism.

My favorite thing about this poll is that ‘Accepting a luxury jet from Qatar while the Trump Organization pursues business opportunities in the Gulf’ came in last. Deeper bench than the ‘92 Dream Team.
Bar chart from Data for Progress titled 'Trump's Handling of the Epstein Files Is Seen as the Most Concerning Corruption-Related Action.' An August 28–31, 2026 survey of 1,167 U.S. likely voters asked which of Trump's second-term actions are most concerning, selecting up to two. Results: declining to fully release the Epstein files, 22%; directing federal law-enforcement investigations against political opponents, 17%; using the presidency to enrich his properties like Mar-a-Lago, 17%; growing his family's cryptocurrency business including Trump meme coins, 15%; family and associates moving between government roles and private ventures, 15%; pardoning allies including Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, 12%; easing regulations in industries where his family has financial interests, 12%; selling early access to his social media posts for up to $100,000 a month, 11%; accepting millions in White House ballroom donations from companies with business before the government, 11%; accepting a luxury jet from Qatar while the Trump Organization pursues Gulf business, 9%, last among the listed actions. 'None of these are concerning to me' drew 18% and 'Don't know'

Cormac McCarthy on survivorship bias.
From a certain perspective one might even hazard to say that the great trouble with the world was that that which survived was held in hard evidence as to past events. A false authority clung to what persisted, as if those artifacts of the past which had endured had done so by some act of their own will. Yet the witness could not survive the witnessing. In the world that came to be that which prevailed could never speak for that which perished but could only parade its own arrogance. It pretended symbol and summation of the vanished world but was neither. He said that in any case the past was little more than a dream and its force in the world greatly exaggerated. For the world was made new each day and it was only men's clinging to its vanished husks that could make of that world one husk more.
La cáscara no es la cosa, he said. It looked the same. But it was not.
