Where the pavement ends is where the adventure begins.
A wide-angle landscape photograph captures a rustic rural scene under a vast, cloudy sky, with a metal farm gate dominating the left side of the frame. The gate features several horizontal silver-colored bars and vertical supports, appearing sturdy and functional. It is anchored to robust, weathered wooden posts, which are bound with visible wires, suggesting a well-established boundary. Beyond the fence and stretching across the midground is a dense carpet of tall grasses, presenting a rich tapestry of vibrant green and drier, golden-brown hues. Within this verdant growth, several dandelions are visible, notably one prominent, spherical seed head positioned near the lower center of the gate. To the right, a light brown dirt or gravel road extends into the distance, providing a clear path alongside the grassy expanse. The horizon line is set low, allowing the expansive sky to occupy the upper two-thirds of the image. The sky is a blend of muted blue tones, punctuated by numerous soft, fluffy white and grey clouds, hinting at an overcast or partly cloudy day. The lighting is soft and diffused, casting no harsh shadows and contributing to a tranquil, almost nostalgic atmosphere. The overall impression is one of peaceful solitude in an untouched natural or agricultural setting, possibly a prairie or a large field boundary, evoking the quiet beauty of rural life.

A lot of folks are treating a referendum on Alberta separation as a given. Let's not forget that Premier Smith has options, and the decision to go to a referendum is a choice for which she will be accountable. A separation vote is not somehow inevitable or predetermined. It's a choice.
