English common law (for instance) probably did not evolve to encompass such questions, but yes, in general let's try to Not Create The Torment Nexus, and enact toothsome measures to prevent companies from even getting close. This is one of those things where retrospective punishment doesn't work.

Probably not obscure knowledge, but it was news to me that Alfred Russel Wallace's grave is adorned with a large, phallic fossil tree. Least subtle tomb since Jules Verne (check that out too). Discussed here (wallacefund.myspecies.info/fossil-tree). Photo by George W. Beccaloni, CC BY 3.0.

A simple point that surprisingly few people understand: "The longer we wait to reach net zero, the higher the eventual peak temperature will be, and the worse the associated damage. Warming is now nearly 1.4C above pre-industrial levels. Imagine summers when it gets closer to 2C."

It's still mad to me that the UK can choose an entire new government without any input from the people, or indeed the party. I know in principle voters voted for a party and not a specific leader, but... isn't that kind of just a lame pretext? When have you last heard talk of the 2024 manifesto?
