they were *lying* when they were "worried" about Asian-American college applicants, and they are *lying* now when they're "worried" about "strivers." They do not want non-white people being in any way superior (or evident) to white people. that's it. that's the whole thing.

very tired of being told it is the responsibility of urban democratic voters never to risk possibly maybe by chance seeming less than respectful of rural red state life and then watching thousands in nebraska cheer on the president joking about a nuclear strike on me and millions of my neighbors

i am not a wrathful person but all the rationalization about AI gets to me! every lie or piece of boosterism is a direct attack on an art form i love. i am a professional programmer. all my code was written by me. don't ever make up lies about other people's processes to justify your AI use.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

If you have love for democracy, I think you have an obligation to diminish the drive for pure efficiency or convenience. Because democracy cannot compete on those terms, and is one of the more vexatious and frustrating forms of government.

I read the ending and I wanted to koolaid man through a wall!!
Screenshot of article which reads: To restore a functioning and
pluralistic democracy in the United States, reversing over a decade of
democratic backsliding in the world’s oldest democracy, the thing to
“fix” is not polarization. Polarization is the country’s immune response
to an unpopular, antidemocratic, and intentionally divisive faction grabbing for disproportionate power to the detriment of national success,
reputation, and democratic self-government. Tamping down that immune response only allows this minority faction to have greater control.Screenshot of article which reads: But the fury of the argument shows the importance of the outcome.
When we focus on polarization as the problem, the solution is for ev-
eryone to quiet down and be “civil”—an outcome that benefits those
who are willing to grab as much power as they can without concern
for legality or civility. When we see the problem for what it is, the
solution is to defend the most robust social progress in American his-
tory—progress that has already been codified into law and enjoyed
by everyone alike. U.S. democracy needs leaders who are willing to
defend those rights and voters who are willing to hold accountable the
leaders who will not defend them. It does not need everyone simply to calm down.

"The current level of political animosity is exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s citizens." There are not enough exclamation points to convey how I felt reading this paragraph
Screenshot of article which reads: From this perspective, the “both sides” frame falls apart. The prob-
lem is not that the parties are divided. The problem is the existential
threat that a reempowered ethnonationalist strain poses to pluralistic
U.S. democracy writ large. The current level of political animosity is
exactly what one would expect to see if an extremist faction attempted
to rescind the hard-earned rights of the vast majority of the country’s
citizens. The only way to re-oppress most of a country is to use anti-
democratic and authoritarian tactics. And the only way to oppose those
tactics is to push back as a population and clearly reject them. This is
the argument happening in the United States, and its pathology is not
anger—it is the movement to undermine a generation of rights.

Siri as it existed prior to 2 or 3 years ago is all the Siri I need on my iPhone, iPad, or Apple watch. If the models & programs marketed as AI disappeared tomorrow it would make no difference whatsoever in my lived daily life. 20/

I think there are three separate issues here. 1) People that know what the LLMs & LIMs, what there limitations are, & have legitimate uses for them & those legitimate uses are things that the LLMs & LIMs doing business as AI can actually do well w/appropriate human oversight. 1/

✨Free Market Competition✨ By introducing a variety of options and forcing them to compete on price and features, it ensures that the final product is the best at surveiling every person in the country for the least cost to the government! (The framing of the above in a positive light is sarcasm)

I don't know if it's because social media overrepresents clueless comments or if it's a real trend, but I see way more people treat contradicting information or characters not saying what they mean in a story as "mistakes" and not, like, how fiction works.

A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs. Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year. If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.

I have no problem with devoting SOME funding and effort to understanding the risk of AI killing us all. But I think it's insane that in 2026, as we're watching AI cause right-now harms to right-now people, that the ethical tech space has been almost entirely taken over by these galaxy-brain fears.

It’s easy to pivot toward explanations & indignation rooted in individual responsibility. & I believe that does play a role. But we need to see how AI is like a virus latching onto a deeply flawed system. A provost, tho, isn’t just a student acting as the system incentivizes. He sets standards.

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

Oh, for sure! A fire is cozy on a chilly night, or while a winter storm is raging outside. On the flip side, a fire during a hot summer day is uncomfortable, and wearing a weighted blanket all the time is, well, a drag (sorry not sorry 😉)
