Insisting boys must be strong is “gender ideology.” Telling girls to be nurturing is “gender ideology.” Assuming that kids ought to grow up to be heterosexual and get married is “gender ideology.” This gender ideology is everywhere. It just goes unnoticed because society mandates it as “normal.”

I grapple with my own chronic illness and am part of a support group of people with chronic illness and disability. Three of my family are disabled, rooted in class and poverty. This book is a wonder for unpicking way certain bodies and communities are abandoned or expendable in capitalism.
