one thing I’d add is Andy’s not great at machine politics. Got blocked from G&D in part because he didn’t work to fix the NEC. He thought he was the union/left candidate in 2015 but lost that to Corbyn. He has advice from people who are better at it now, but it’s a big part of leading labour

I would like to call my Papa on the telephone today, said Wolf at breakfast. Old Fox came to sit next to Wolf & poured him a cup of cocoa. And he explained, as he did every couple of months, that Wolf's father had died, many years ago. He had loved Wolf greatly, but he had died.

The King's Speech has included the introduction of a bill to enable peerages to be removed. Always a tricky topic, in 1782 there was a rare attempt by the House of Lords to try to prevent a new peerage being conferred on Lord George Germain as Viscount Sackville. The motion was defeated 61 to 26.

In the 1690s Gatton had 22 voters; by the 1750s there were just 2. The last contested election took place in 1660, with nomination to the seats shared between the lords of the manor of Gatton and Upper Gatton. The borough was abolished in 1832 and absorbed within Surrey (Eastern division). #HistParl
