For today's #WIPSnips word "wall", another snippet from my and @bakerbelle.bsky.social's #OFMDBigBang fic Turns out there's a lot of walls being mentioned at critical points of the story but I chose a non-spoilery one instead 😅

Ed’s heart dropped into his stomach. Had he forgotten something? An important date? It wouldn’t have been the first time that something like a birthday or anniversary or a meet-up with Jack’s work-friends had slipped his mind, even though it had been on the wall-calendar and he had been thinking about it literally every day for weeks before only to realise he had completely erased it from his consciousness the day of. Jack had never been able to understand how that could happen. Neither could Ed himself, really … Also, regardless of whether he’d forgotten an event, up until tonight, Ed had been under the impression that Jack didn’t mind him hanging out with Stede, since they were just friends, but now it seemed like he was a little jealous after all.

For #WIPWednesday, here's a snip from the @ofmdbigbang.bsky.social fic I'm cooking up with @bakerbelle.bsky.social Stede's love language is pretty much "cake" in this.

“Point taken,” he said. “Anyway, let me drive you home. It’s late and you’ve been through a lot. I don’t want you to collapse in the street, you still seem a bit shaky.”

“That’s just because I haven’t had dinner,” Ed said dismissively.

“Oh god, Ed, what was I thinking? You must be starving! I’ll get you something!” Stede shouted, already half on his way to the kitchen to make Ed a sandwich, cursing himself for being so negligent of Ed’s needs.

“I’ll take this if it’s okay,” Ed said, pointing at the piece of chocolate tart Stede had abandoned on the table earlier, with an expression on his face that would have put a shelter puppy trying to get adopted to shame.

“Oh, of course,” Stede replied. “I was actually saving that for you …”

Still working on the Your Time Starts Now epilogue. I decided, after a long chat with @tanteclem.bsky.social in sprinties, to make Black Pete the host of the Taskmaster podcast, so that's been fun to play with! So here's a reworked snip of Ed's first thoughts in the caravan. #OFMD #WIPWednesday

Fucking hell. All of those contestants who'd whinged about the state of the caravan over the years had not been playing it up for laughs quite as much as Ed had assumed they were. He had been in the caravan a few times, mostly to film interstitials, but that had been a few years ago, and every other podcast interview he'd done had been via Zoom. Part of the reason for that had been circumstance, part of it had been a desire not to have to put on pants, but a large part had been Pete himself.
Not that Ed didn't like the guy - he liked him just fine. Pete was very likeable, in his own way, and he kept Lucius sweet as pie (and distracted) whenever they socialised together, a miracle for which Ed was very grateful. Pete and Ed were friends, of a sort, in the way that comedians who have been on the same circuit for around the same number of years can be. Apparently he'd opened for Ed for one tour, back when Ed first started doing shows in the UK. Ed didn't remember touring with him, but then again, Ed's memories of that time were hazy at best.
The Taskmaster podcast was Lucius' fault, in a very direct 'action A' to 'outcome Z' way. He'd gotten Pete involved with testing tasks, back before the first series, and with every year and series that passed, Pete had become only more obsessed with Taskmaster. He'd made any number of broad, unsubtle hints to Ed about being booked to be on the show, 'if you ever need another close friend in the cast'. Hints that Ed had directed towards Izzy, who apparently had talked to Lucius, who'd asked Pete if he'd ever wanted to be a podcast host. Or so Ed imagined, he didn't really know how it had happened, but however it had, the podcast had taken off. Pete was an excellent host, his encyclopaedic knowledge of Taskmaster trivia and his true, enthusiastic love of the show making for a great atmosphere. And that extremely eager puppy energy always got dialled up to eleven whenever Ed was booked to be on the podcast.

Ed could have stuck to Zoom, it wouldn't have made much difference, but he'd wanted to be on site with Stede, not really out of the 'honeymoon-slash-unwilling to let Stede out of his sight even though they now lived together' phase of their relationship. So he'd swung it with Izzy, as well as Pete (not that Pete had needed much persuading, unsurprisingly), that he and Stede would be at the house on the same day. So he really only had himself to blame for the discomfort he was currently feeling.
He shifted on the stupidly small vinyl lounge seat, trying to get comfortable without hitting his knees against the underside of the wood laminate table. Opposite him, Pete was looking far too bloody comfortable, because he'd sensibly sat to one side of the table, letting his legs stretch out into the kitchen space. Of course he'd done better with positioning himself, he spent an unreasonable amount of time in this bloody caravan.
Thank fuck the caravan had been mostly out of commission during the filming of Stede's series - Ed would never have heard the end of it, not least because he suspected that any stains to Stede's all-white outfit from the caravan would have been nigh-on impossible to lift. Thankfully, there'd been a fuck-off giant wasp's nest, or something similar, that had taken most of the filming time to get rid of safely. Stede had still had some choice words to say about it, even with only his brief forays inside to go by, and Ed was beginning very much to regret his decision to do this bloody thing in person.
