I want to unpack this a tiny bit, which I think I can do without getting anybody in too much trouble: One verrry underreported aspect of campaigns like this, for obvious reasons, is “which TV pundits have the same agents as athletes they’re covering”

He’s right of course. Player pay and coaching pay ARE totally different markets. That’s why in every pro sports league on earth, the best players are paid significantly more than the best coaches. They’re way more valuable. College sports is unique in flipping that

i also want to be very clear again, one of the two girls he interviewed in the spiked column who insists it’s not an anti-trans movement did this
During the February 6 game, Staudt said she grew upset that Rooks was allowed to play. She then admitted to misgendering Rooks in front of several people.
"I was put on the spot in the whole entire gym, I looked over and I said, 'You are a man,' because that is my first amendment right," she said.

this is very simple and applies to them all
At the same time, Cunningham is a backup who is probably past the midway point of her career, and it makes total sense for her to be thinking about what comes next. There are plenty of after-basketball paths Sophie Cunningham could explore that do not involve further emboldening vile bigots obsessed with driving trans people from public life. But none of those paths are as easy or as lucrative as this one. That's why she's taking it.

This is because our allies NEVER push the science that we don't have an advantage in sports Its always "there are hardly any trans athletes" as though thats a defence of us because the implication to that is "if there were more then it would be an issue"

Love a direct, to the point queen. Say it plainly and leave no space for bad-faith bullshit.
Asked why the WNBA continues to experience these heightened distractions, Cloud said, "Men."
"The men now that are like 'Oh, we need to protect the WNBA,’ y'all were the same ones saying we shouldn't be paid," Cloud continued. "Y'all were the same ones saying we shouldn't have been invested in, saying we're a joke, the same ones that don't respect Black women. So, if you're going to protect women, that means all women. That includes Black women, trans women and the list goes on."

Thinking about Dolly Parton/Tim Curry and sometimes separating the art from the artist works the opposite way it’s conventionally used where sometimes you can’t separate them not because it’s bad but because you know the person is making the art in an expression of joy and it helps you connect more

You’ve got to understand the WNBA’s dilemma here: on one side are the hardcore, dedicated socially liberal fanbase who supported the league during the dark days when it was barely profitable and on the other side are the people who hate women and don’t think the WNBA should exist.

Discworld QOTD, from Snuff
Vimes knew about life below stairs, hell, yes, he did! Not so long ago a policeman summoned to a big house would be sent around to the back door to be instructed to drag away some weeping chambermaid or not-very-bright boot boy accused without evidence of stealing some ring or silver-handled brush that the lady of the house would probably find later, perhaps when she had finished the gin. That wasn’t supposed to be what coppers were for, although in reality, of course it was what coppers were for. It was about privilege, and young Vimes had hardly worn in his first pair of policeman’s boots when his sergeant had explained what that meant. It meant private law. In those days an influential man could get away with quite a lot if he had the right accent, the right crest on his tie or the right chums, and a young policeman who objected might get away without a job and without a reference.
