I don’t think many nondisabled people realize that laws mandating accommodations are purposefully weak. Your employer gets to decide what an “undue burden” is. They hardly ever get called to account anyway, but if they do, they can cry about money or work hours or pretty much anything they like.

Day 15 #SciArtSeptember: honeycomb. This detail of my #SciArt #embroidery, deep dilation (2025) features a honeycomb-like net to represent the stent in my iliac vein.

A pelvis, lumbar vertebrae, and part of the iliac vein are embroidered on white linen. Most of the iliac vein is outlined in grey-green stem stitch and the photo is focused on this area. A section on the left branch is a stent outlined in darker grey-green split stitch with some horizontal and crossing threads stretched across it. Intricate turbulence is stitched in single strand dark aquamarine backstitch within the iliac vein. The bones are stitched in thick backstitch in a white just slightly bluer than the white linen. Some text reading, “a single stem deep” is stitched to the right of the stent.

I dont actually love being annoyingly medically complex. It is not a personality quirk or special interest. Learning my rights and advocating for my disabled life is pure survival and some of you like to pick on people for things like that, that you mistake for a trait of a person, its frankly weird

Stigma is why I HAVE to use a wheelchair these days, because I pushed too hard to get “better” and go without a brace during a critical period, and then again forcing myself to walk at work. It is not better to “tough it out”. It’s how you get hurt, sometimes extremely permanently.

Getting *any* degree of heat exhaustion functionally wipes out any heat tolerance you've developed Many medications make you far more succeptible to overheating/having difficulty regulating your body temp (ADHD meds, heart/bp meds, any med that ups serotonin including SSRIs, etc., so so so many)

The CDC has paused testing for rabies and pox viruses. It's vital we keep a close eye on them as rabies is virtually 100% fatal without vaccination, and smallpox killed hundreds of millions (we really don't want a similar virus returning). Losing track of these viruses is a recipe for catastrophe.

I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one. It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
