In case anyone comes across either the ADHD is over diagnosed or Autism is over diagnosed BS. Here are two pieces I wrote that demolish both of those arguments On ADHD (which also touches on Trans & Autism) I wrote www.thegist.ie/guest-gist-e... On Autism dermotcasey.net/the-challeng...
The headline reads, “ADHD and autism are not overdiagnosed. They’re better recognised.” The poster explains that awareness is catching up, diagnostic criteria have evolved, and ADHD and autism have historically been underdiagnosed, especially in girls and women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and adults. It includes icons of a lightbulb with a brain, an open book, a diverse group of people, a heart, and a checklist. The message emphasizes that real struggles are valid, diagnosis can lead to better support, and “This isn’t overdiagnosis. This is overdue recognition.”

Fun fact: the Emergency didn't technically end until 1976, when the government wanted to declare a new emergency because of the Troubles (another euphemism) and discovered the never formally ended the old one. So the Dáil had to vote to end the emergency, then immediately declare a new emergency.

This week’s edition is about hare coursing, data centres, the Occupied Territories Bill, and how we’re prepared to build our economy around such pernicious things… and we don’t even get a good economy out of it.
“This is without even getting into the weeds of what our doubling down on data centres means for household electricity costs in Ireland (currently the highest in Europe) or the global effects on climate change (it's hot out, in case you haven't noticed). Nobody is disputing that data centres are important for the way the current world order is operating. The issue is that the current world order fucking sucks, man.”

We've just added another of Dinah's chapters, from a 2011 book called Autism and Learning. Attached is a list of "Why computers suit autistic individuals", each one expanded on in the text. monotropism.org/autism-it/
Contained, very clear-cut boundary conditions.

Naturally monotropic, (cf. Douglas Coupland’s ‘overfocused’) thus context-free.

Restricted stimuli in all sensory modalities.

Rule-governed and predictable thus controllable (despite annoying mistakes).

Safe error-making.

Highly perfectible medium.

Possibilities of non-verbal or verbal expression.

Interacts cotropically with the individual, i.e. it joins the individual’s attention tunnel, ‘starts where the child is’.
