The #LivingPlanetReport shows nature is under pressure. But wildlife CAN recover, when given the chance. 🐅 Tiger numbers rose by over 70% between 2010 and 2025. 🦏 The black rhino population has almost tripled since the 1980s. 🦍 Mountain gorillas back from the brink, now over 1,000.

A Storm in a Teacup? The Plastic Reality of Modern Teabags and the Return of Loose Leaf
It is one of the simplest, most comforting rituals in daily life. The kettle whistles, a mug waits patiently, and a teabag takes a quick dive into freshly boiled water. However, a recent review by …

#FallColour Autumn is officially here. After a heavy (much needed) rain last night, everything is cloaked in a heavy fog this morning. So, from earlier this week, leaves changing to red & white birch tree trunks.
A patch of sunlight highlights red leaves & white birch trunks in the shadows.

I love this painting my mum, Jo, inspired by a cottage I used to rent in Devon. It feels so utterly evocative of the place, and the time - the 1930s - when the place was almost certainly at its cultural peak. If you read this, you'll probably understand why: www.tom-cox.com/the-lion-the...
A painting, with echoes of cubism, inspired by the slightly gothic cottage where I lived in the grounds of Dartington Hall, Devon, from early 2014 to the end of 2017. (If you've read my books Ring The Hill and 21st-Century Yokel this place will probably feel quite familiar.)

NASA picture of the day today is a real 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿beauty! This is a composite image of the ~5000yo Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis. The amazing Giuseppe Petricca has only gone and photographed the Sun at noon there, every few days, for a whole year. #Dedication 🔭🧪👌 ℹ️: science.nasa.gov/image-articl...
The imposing Callanish Stones stand talk with their shadows spanning out across the glass. It's a super clear sky, but looks cold. Above the central stone is a strange figure-of-8 shape of dots. This is the location of the Sun, at noon, on various different days across the year.

This is noteworthy. Again, no compelling evidence supports the COVID lab leak theory. The furin cleavage site present in SARS-CoV2 was perceived as unusual, fueling the lab leak theory. But now we understand that other bat betacoronaviruses have it. 🧪 www.chemistryworld.com/news/does-th...
