This bighorn looks as though it could've been stuffed and placed decoratively on the rim of the Grand Canyon by park officials, but it was real as can be and placidly enjoying a mid-morning snack. Have a great weekend! #hiking #scapes #wildlife

Yesterday afternoon the sky cleared for a bit, only because I decided to leave my sun hat in the car. No complaints - it was surreally beautiful! #BlueTues #hiking #scapes

Visitors to the region always want to go to The Wave and a few other Instagram spots. But there are millions of acres of public land here, so you don't need a permit, just a decent pair of trail runners and the ability to navigate. There are wonders around every corner. #scapes #hiking #ShotsInSlots

One of the many beauties of the Grand Staircase region is that no matter how much exploring one does, it's impossible to learn all its secrets. #ShotsInSlots #hiking

The Navajo people talk of "male" and "female" rain. I'm not sure that the Glen Canyon region knows how to do female rain, but we'll gladly take it either way. #BWFri

Moseying through the Moenkopi on a Friday morning. With some effort, I probably could have stemmed my way up and over the chockstone in the foreground, but it was my hike and my rules. So "Nah, I'm not going to do that" was perfectly legitimate.😉 #ShotsInSlots #hiking

Take a walk on the wild side. A big cat must've been checking out the neighborhood. I often see mountain lion tracks and scat in the Vermilion Cliffs, but not the critters themselves. Years ago I had a mountain lion encounter on the Arizona Trail, which was plenty for me. #OrangeSun

An ordinary scene along the upper Paria River, no longer a part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Kane County has long wanted to put a road through here. As a society, we're profoundly lost. #YellowThu #hiking #backpacking

Bear with me while I grieve. I found a map of the new boundaries of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and they're ridiculous. Only a short segment of the upper Escalante River remains protected; this segment is SOL. #RedWed
