🧵💉Should pregnant people get COVID-19 vaccine? 🤰 TL;DR: YES. Pregnant people, especially those with certain conditions are at increased risk of severe COVID, miscarriage, and pre-term labor. Babies < 6mo also have increased risk of severe COVID. Vaccination protects mom and baby More below 👇

In the US, 300 people a week are dying of Covid. 1200 a month. 15,600 a year. They’ve restricted COVID testing & reporting… so it’s safe to say those numbers are an undercount (and they don’t include the thousands being disabled) Do they urge mask use? Clean air? No. They restrict vaccines:

Why are more than 300 people in the US still dying from COVID every week?
Last month, an average of about 350 people died each week from COVID, according to data from the CDC. With available vaccines and treatments, why are people still dying?

People rightfully don’t trust politicians because they dangle positive change like a carrot that you only get after Election Day… maybe. We don’t need a liberal Joe Rogan. We need our leaders to do good things at every possible juncture. That’s where our resources should go.

So ok, here’s the deal. We’ve been skating on the fact that we had a massive summer wave last year, one of the biggest we’ve *ever* had. Since then, no new strain really took over, so people who got sick last year have been coasting on limited immunity to that strain. That’s about to change.

It’ll be something to see how this summer’s temperatures impact areas most affected by the year’s tornadoes now that so much tree cover has been lost. These are big, old trees coming down.

In the days leading up to the tornado that has killed 5 in St. Louis many areas around the city/county had siren tests. Yet when the tornado was sweeping through the area they didn’t go off at all??

There’s no rationale for this ignorance any more. There are thousands of credible studies. There are thousands of online advocates trying to hand-feed people basic information on transmission and risk. There are thousands of news articles. If you still don’t get it, you just don’t want to.

You hear excuse a lot from people who KNOW that they should be masking during the ongoing pandemic but “no one else is doing it!”. Weak ass argument when you can directly be responsible for someone’s death or disability bc you “didn’t know” you were asymptomatic

How people can recognize that this guy’s take is eugenics but then justify not wearing a mask in public spaces & “going back to normal” in the ongoing pandemic bc “covid is only dangerous to high risk people” and “Biden said I could stop masking” is beyond frustrating.

I am at a loss for words at the feeling in my chest knowing the universal masking and other airborne mitigation so many have been begging for across the nation for literal years could have prevented this. If you work in healthcare and you’re not wearing something better than a surgical mask, why?
On Wednesday, a woman gave birth in a Lubbock, Texas, hospital in the middle of a deadly and fast-growing measles outbreak. Doctors didn't realize until the young mother had been admitted and in labor that she was infected with the measles.
By that time, other new moms, newborn babies and their families at University Medical Center Children's Hospital in Lubbock had unknowingly been exposed to the virus, considered one of the most contagious in the world.

A study showing nasal sprays can prevent COVID has been retracted. Personally I see nasal sprays as an additional layer, but I would not rely on them for prevention. Wear a well fitted respirator & add in a nasal spray if accessible (or saline nasal rinses). Don’t rely on nasal sprays alone

RETRACTED: Evaluating the efficacy and safety of a novel prophylactic nasal spray in the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 infection: A multi-centre, double blind, placebo-controlled, randomised trial.

Absolutely. I run safe sets when I’m in charge, and I advocate for precautions when I’m not the big boss, but nothing quite has the impact of SAG requiring precautions and tying it to insurance. If only OSHA/ASHRAE/WSIB had taken this on as a workplace safety matter we’d be in a much better spot.

Looks like the muppets who dropped the ball on COVID and killed and injured so many people are planning to finish the job if H5N1 gives them a chance. Droplet transmission only, 2m transmission, the same "reactionary principle" they screwed us with in COVID. www.canada.ca/en/public-he...
4.3.2. Pandemic Influenza: Transmission

Receptors for human influenza virus are predominantly located on the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Transmission of infection occurs when influenza viruses penetrate a susceptible host's defences and are deposited on viral receptors in the upper respiratory tract Footnote 49. Transmission of the human influenza virus depends on the exposure of a susceptible host to a sufficient concentration (infectious dose) and attachment to a receptor of viable human strain viral particles Footnote 50. Published clinical observationsFootnote 50, Footnote 51 suggest that influenza transmission usually occurs when the susceptible host and infectious source are within close proximity (less than two metres)Footnote 46-54.

Human-to-human transmission of the influenza virus appears to be similar to the transmission of other human influenza viruses (e.g., seasonal influenza) occurring primarily either directly or indirectly through close unprotected contact with large respiratory droplets. The contribution of close range exposure to smaller droplet nuclei to transmission of influenza is unknown, but may be more prominent under special conditions (e.g., aerosol-generating procedures). Therefore, IPC precautions for patients with suspected, probable or confirmed pandemic influenza virus infection, as well as those with other respiratory pathogens that cause ILI symptoms, should focus on controlling the spread of respiratory dropletsFootnote 46.

Exposure to the influenza virus does not necessarily result in its transmission and subsequent infection. A susceptible host may come in contact with (i.e., be exposed to) an infectious agent/infected source and NOT acquire influenza infection (i.e., transmission does not occur). The probability of infection (transmission) is dependent on a number of factors, including host mucosal immunity, infectious dose, viability and virulence of the infectious agent, and the effective implementation of Routine Practices and …
