A deep orange sun glows through dark clouds over Touvre, France.
7:30 p.m. The sky is tinted an unusual amber colour, due to the thick smoke drifting from the massive and out of control wildfires currently devastating parts of Gironde.
Eerie and dramatic atmosphere.

For Christmas this year, all the Aloe arborescens are flowering. We are in the southwest of France. Yes, climate is changing, fast.
The 60-80 cm racy inflorescence of the Aloe arborescens is erected and simple. The raceme is conical 20-30 cm by 10-12 cm in diameter, bearing many yellow/orange flowers. Paris. Église Saint-Etienne-du-Mont. The rood screen. (Alt for details).
Despite a construction of the choir, then of the nave, spread over about thirty years, the architecture of the building offers a remarkable uniformity, clearly visible at the level of the piles and the vault. The Gothic architectural style is enriched with a Renaissance ornamentation, in a very harmonious marriage.

A magnificent jube (rood screen), the only one left in Paris, cuts the building in two. Architectural and artistic feat, its design dates from the early 1530s.

The tribune, nine meters long, is supported by a basket-ended vault that culminates at four meters.

A typical ornamentation of the early Renaissance (the écoinçons) is combined with the classical Gothic style of the railing and stairs, a style not without a Mooorish influence.

Paris. Église Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, built from 1492 to 1626. Here, the nave-transept crossing. (Alt for details)
The nave-transept crossing is one of the masterpieces of this church, built around 1584-1586.

This vault is a magnificent example of the transition from late Gothic to Renaissance style. The thirds that divide the space are gothic, as are the hanging keys and the openwork discs with fine chisels that furnish these spaces. The other motifs of ornamentation are totally Renaissance.

The artistic fantasy of the whole is typical of the late 16th century.

The central hanging key has a height of 2.40 meters. It is kept in balance almost five meters below the top of the vault thanks to curved links stiffened by an invisible metal reinforcement, present from the origin.

📷 Fhe wonders of nature by a cold and bright winter morning. 🍂 ❄️ ☀️ 🌍
On a cold but sunny winter morning, the photo in portrait mode shows some oak leaves that fell to the ground last fall, they are covered with frost.

The first rays of the sun illuminate the ice crystals.

Due to the framing, the median rib of the largest leaf is in the vertical axis of the frame, the lateral ribs thus offer a form of relative symmetry.

🏛️ 🖌️ 🖼️ 📷 Chiharu Shiota. “The Soul Trembles“. An exceptional exhibition within the Grand Palais, Paris.
Shiota's installations transform spaces into emotional labyrinths. She describes her work as a "drawing in the air", where the threads evoke human connections, neural networks and the invisible. Among his outstanding works, Uncertain Journey (2016/2024) immerses the visitor in a maelstrom of red threads, gushing out of metal boats, summoning memories and reflections on human ties, travel and exile.

Chiharu Shiota mainly uses three colors: black, red and white. Black evokes the depth of the universe and introspection, red symbolizes life, death and vital connections, while white, introduced in his work after his illness in 2017, represents a blank page and a rebirth. These chromatic choices reinforce the emotional impact of his installations. Everyday objects, such as shoes, beds or suitcases, occupy a central place in its facilities. By wrapping them in threads, the artist attributes to them a memorial and emotional dimension. These objects become the vectors of a collective memory, both intimate and universal.Shiota's installations transform spaces into emotional labyrinths.
