The American Dream is amazing: within just a few years you can go from being the child of Cuban immigrants to the great-grandson of Spanish settlers.

As completely deranged and fucked up and wrong as he is, I gotta say it is stressful to have the damn president of the United States constantly attacking my state of Minnesota, sending violence, calling for violence, putting all lives at risk, killing our neighbors. Like it really takes a toll.

It’s fun for you, there’s the National Arboretum by one shelter and a lovely wooded hiking trail near the other, and you will absolutely make the day of a pup who spends most of their day cooped up indoors alone.

"Are you kidding me" photo -
Photographer description: A young Great Horned Owl had barely settled onto its perch before a protective squirrel launched a surprise aerial tackle, knocking it into the grass below. The most unbelievable part? The squirrel repeated the stunt two more times. The owl and squirrel were shaken up, but unharmed. I have been observing and photographing Great Horned Owls at this location for around nine years, and I had never seen anything like this before. An adult pair was raising two chicks, and once the young owls began branching, I started visiting them regularly in the mornings and evenings to observe their behavior. On this particular morning, I spotted one of the seven-week-old owlets perched in a pine tree along the path.

The Peace of Westphalia was the biggest musical festival in the history of the world. Just weeks of chill white people hanging out on lawns, dancing, smoking, and listening to the latest in popular harpsicord ballads. A truly epic conclusion to the Halcyon days of early 17th century Europe.

Happy birthday to Jim Thompson, one of the best and most uncompromising American noir writers. If you only know The Getaway from the film versions, you're missing a lot. Neither had the guts to go all the way to the real ending of the story.

these are self-inflicted wounds. i'm not petty or vindictive. that said: why would i tell my representatives to support a bill that aids a constituency that hasn't just acted against its own interests, but tends as a bloc to support a malign actor who is intent on harming me + people i care about?
But the fate of the farm bill remains uncertain, along with the future of its programs and funding that are essential to the agricultural industry, as farmers are squeezed financially by tariffs, higher input prices — including major cost increases for diesel and fertilizer prices — and extreme weather and drought.

I shrugged at Jeffries meeting Kushner, for basically the same reason Iran talks to him: meeting adversaries is normal. But the choice to make it secret, followed by surprise that Kushner leaked it, is another sign Dem leaders think they're in normal politics with good faith opponents, not a crisis.
