At 3:00pmET today, the House of Commons is scheduled for its first vote on Bill C-39 — Carney’s push to bulldoze nature, run roughshod on Indigenous rights, and kill the right to strike. I’ll be watching to see if any Liberal MPs show a shred of a backbone in the face of their conservative leader.

When it was initially launched, the government estimated that once fully implemented, up to nine million Canadians would be able to access more affordable dental care. So far, throughout the entirety of the CDCP’s existence, 4.8 million people have had a claim approved.

Of those who have been able to receive care, 37 per cent report still facing financial barriers, something the report indicated is because the CDCP’s fees are set below the actual cost of care, “leaving part of the bill with patients.”

Another issue identified was that 50 per cent of complete preauthorization requests are denied, and only 17 per cent of dentists say most recommended care has been covered for their patients, a sign that “patients face gaps in coverage for needed treatment,” the report suggested.

"On Sept. 27, a group of masked men gathered at the Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc reserve just outside of Kamloops, B.C., to intimidate First Nations people three days before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. They held up a banner above the Trans-Canada highway that read, “Got bones?”

It’s not just the Conservatives; the Liberals have perpetuated the marginalization of Indigenous Peoples. Even now, the Carney government is steadfast in denying treating residential school denialism as a hate crime. The Canadian Press reported: “Indigenous Services Minister Mandy Gull-Masty was noncommittal when asked about criminalizing residential school denialism after a group linked with white nationalism reportedly staged a demonstration in the B.C. interior.”

From sidestepping the duty to consult on major projects to trying to rewrite the history of John A. Macdonald, Prime Minister Mark Carney is also is streamlining anti-Indigenous sentiments into this government’s modus operandi. As I wrote on Twitter: “There is a straight line between fed govt’s rewriting of SJAM history that purposefully ignores systemic Indigenous racism and ignoring residential school denialism (wasn’t included in the anti-hate bill) and anti-Indigenous hate. This is how the state tacitly weaponizes hate.”
