The tiny witch homunculus once again transported one of my socks to a Monet painting-inspired pocket dimension during the night. This time, she enchanted my sock so that it smells slightly like boiled parsnips.

Here's a lovely photo of my fabric art creation, the tiny witch homunculus. She's a little green humanoid with large twinkly red eyes and a tiny frown. She doesn't have any clothes to speak of. She's sitting on a small cookie of sliced wood. She's holding a little stick wrapped with rainbow thread with a green stone on the end. There's a little broom standing upright beside her. On the other side is a green, yellow, and blue striped sock. In the background is a beautiful Monet painting fabric.

HERE IT IS! In August 2025, a massive landslide brought a big chunk of mountainside into the Tracy Arm fjord in Alaska, causing the second-largest tsunami ever recorded. My latest for @eos.org is the story of the forensic investigation, and why the culprit is climate change: 🧪

The Forensics of a Skyscraper-Sized Tsunami - Eos

A landslide in Tracy Arm Fjord in Alaska created the second-largest tsunami on record. A new analysis links this abrupt event to the retreat of a glacier and, ultimately, to climate change.

Time for an experiment! You know those cute little roadside stands with honors-system eggs or produce? Look, I know I live in "big scary Philadelphia oooh 👻" but I'm gonna try it. What's the worst that can happen? Thieves create habitat for native bees? Jokes on them! I wanted them to do that!

A shit ton of plants in front of Sarah's house and a little box of plants labeled swamp milkweed, ironweed, and aster, in front of a little sign that's not really legible but has pictures of each mature plant. In the background is sarah's science library with bits of seaweed painted on it and little shrimpies on the seaweed.

CW: Violent imagery The fourth of my planned ten 'What is a Golem' poem drafts for #napowrimo2026 #poetry #napowrimo #writingcommunity

Text:

What is a Golem (IV)

A gush of crimson spills
from the skull I smashed
at your command. I cup my hands,
fill them to the brim, so you can see
a universe swirling in an offering bowl.

But when I hold it up, it’s only so much rust,
soaked into already-red mud.

If you had given me a mouth, I would tell you:
even a walking grave remembers
what you hid in it.

Sometimes a poem falls in your lap (or in this case on my notebook). #napowrimo #napowrimo2026 #poetry #writingcommunity

Text (written center-aligned, with the latter half of the lines arranged so the words outline a splodge in the negative space between them)

---

Nature Poem

I sat beneath an old, tall tree
(a yew, I believe), and listened
to the chorus of the birds,
their loud, primordial poetry:
the laughing trochees of the great tit,
the wood pigeon’s wheezing spondees,
the lilting dactyls of the blackbird,
the robin’s belligerent free verse
but then
one of the little
feathered bastards
shat on the
page. So I guess
I’ll write about flowers instead.

Different hardware, same software.

A tiger from the Oakland Zoo in 2021 sits in a hay-filled box just the right size for them. The tiger is orange with black tiger stripes, a white tufted face, and is curled slightly in the box, with a dark colored tail tip just peeking out of the box. Behind it is a grey fallen tree and some patchy green grass.

Whimsical digital drawing of a chickadee wearing a pointed black witch's hat and perched among wide green pointed leaves while four tiny white ghosts look on with expressions of wonder. This is something I put quite a bit of work into that got canned the day it was supposed to come out for reasons I'm not getting into here. But I'm allowed to show you the image with identifying branding elements removed, which is what I am doing.

A huge, kaiju-sized green and orange carp is looming over the Watertower and nearly as tall as the Hancock Tower in Chicago, which it is leaning against, and the building is bowing with the weight. Two people are in the foreground running from the massive fish as giant waves lash upward in th background. Even closer in the foreground is a newspaper box with a paper in the front window with the headline INVASIVE CARP CHAOS and a photo of said carp. Everything is done in a stylized manner vaguely reminiscent of a Japanese woodcut print.

For those previously unacquainted here’s the sculpture known to me as ‘Harry Caray and the Harrowing of Hell’

A bronze statue of the late Cubs announcer Harry Caray that stands by the entrance to the bleachers at Wrigley Field. Harry is seen wearing a windbreaker and his signature large and thick-rimmed glasses. He’s gesticulating with both arms, one holding a microphone as he leads the crowd singing in the 7th inning stretch. The base of the statue is a sculptural rendition of the stands of Wrigley Field and rising up from it, in what can easily be interpreted as bronze hellfire, are faces of damned and tormented Cubs fans. I know it sounds like I’m being facetious but that is sincerely what it looks like.

OOP New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!' www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...

Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

Update: @nytimes.com Story is out but the pun didn’t make it. Sad! www.nytimes.com/2026/04/15/u...

Still, some scholars are stuck on the symbolism of the arch. The historian Sarah E.
Bond at the University of Iowa said that Mr.
Trump was departing from the Roman tradition of requesting approval from the Senate to build his monument. That step was important in the ancient world to show deference to the public.
"Trump is using Washington, D.C., as emperors used Rome," Ms. Bond said. "He is using Roman architectural aesthetics to signify that he has triumphed, even if others aren't giving him the kudos he believes he deserves."
