A pedestrian bridge by night, with downward-facing lights set underneath the wooden railings. A spider has built its web directly beneath one, creating a giant spider shadow on the walkway.A further-out view showing the bridge curving away, with dozens of similar lights. A squre photo that is a close up of an Ivy Bee on a cluster of Ivy flowers. Each ivy flower is like an icecream cone of green on the end of a pale green stalk, radiating from the ivy stem. Eacy flower is about the size of the little bees head. The bee is drinking from one flower with it's antennae pointed downwards. It has large black eyes, with an fuzzy orange face, and very pale hairs being its eye. The thorax is covered in short orange hairs, and the abdomen is striped with black and pale yellow.

Blackbird Morning! ...After days of dominance by Steller's Jays, this Saturday morning, the Red-Winged Blackbirds took over the place. #birdoftheday #pairs #wildlifephotography #nature #birds.
Photographed 26 September 2026, I knew the blackbirds were back at the farm from all the sweet songs (and a little less of Jays squawking). Jays are bigger and more aggressive but they do NOT want to be mobbed by Blackbirds! So they kept their distance for awhile. Safety in numbers...
Northern Oregon coast, Nikon D7200, 200mm F/5 1/640s ISO 2000, largely straight out of camera except for a cropping.A mob of Red-winged Blackbirds were hungry enough to keep the Steller's Jays away for a little while. It's the numbers game...

A great blue heron pauses while hunting and fishing along the bank of a pond at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this vertical color photograph, a great blue heron stands in the shallow water along the shoreline in left profile, its long neck stretched forward as it watches for its next meal. Behind the heron, a small cottonwood tree is beginning to turn yellow; a sure sign of the changing seasons and the arrival of fall. Another small cottonwood with golden-yellow leaves fills the foreground, while willow bushes and cattails add texture and depth to the wetland scene.

A beautiful fall portrait of a great blue heron fishing in a wetland habitat so vital to its survival.
