Another shot from yesterdays walk with the 60mm macro. I take a lot of spider photos but rarely post them because I'm a slave to the themes of the day 😀 There's a sprinkling of #WebWednesday tags here and there, so I think I'll hop aboard that one. #Photography #Spiders #Webs
A mabel orchard orbweaver spider sits in the center of its web, still spinning as you can see a web coming out of its body. Behind is pure green and the web strands stand out clearly.

Last day of our sale today 😊 Anyway, here's a Sunflower, still supporting wildlife at the end of September🌻 In this one shot I've counted 1 Bumblebee, 4 Hoverflies, 1 unidentified bug and at least 8 flies of various species 😍 I don't know who had a good feed on the leaf 😂🐛 #MHHSBD
A big, bright Sunflower with bright yellow petals and a yellow centre.
One leaf is visible that has been munched by someone unknown, probably a caterpillar.
The flower has many different insects visiting and is against a bright blue sky, crossed by a black telephone cable.

"Essence of Redstart". I revisited this as it's the best fit I have for #BirdsInAbstract, today's #BirdOfTheDay theme from @helenbennett.bsky.social #UKwildlife #birds
A motion blurred image of the underside of a redstart taking off. The bright orange-red tail is spread in a fan shape, the breast is whitish, and the brown wings are almost furled. The head is not visible. The effect is an impressionist, almost abstract, depiction of energy and motion.

Finished my Cheiridium museorum drawings and have now made them into Bookmarks. 5 bookmarks per A4 page, just need to get them printed on to some nice thick paper at my local printers. Quite appropriate I think as these pseudoscorpions are commonly called Book Scorpions.
A sheet of approx A4 size paper divided into 5 equal strips by thin black horizontal lines. Each resulting rectangle contains 5 black and white line drawings of a pseudoscorpion in a different position. The pseudoscorpions appear to be wandering off across the page in different directions with their claws held out at different angles, variously facing up, down, left and right.

"A delicate macro study of a green flower bud suspended above a perfectly formed droplet of water. The droplet acts like a tiny glass lens, reflecting and magnifying the vivid green foliage within it. Fine details of the unopened petals and textured calyx are revealed, while the soft, dark-green background creates a natural, almost jewel-like setting. The image captures a moment of stillness, freshness, and anticipation just before the flower blooms."

In 2018 we were in Centennial Park in Sydney when the Corellas came home to roost (and the bats were leaving). The Corellas were very boistrous, clumsily knocking each other off perches as they fought for somewhere to kip. I hope they're valid for #AwkwardAvian #BirdoftheDay considerations!
Three birds and a branch sticking out of a pond. The background is all very dark, almost black, which constrasts with the white plumage of the birds. They are being viewed frm head on, and the bird in the middle has just taken off, with its wings outstretched and slightly ahead of it. The bird on the left is leaning away from it with its wings held slightly away from its body in alarm, its beak partly open as it screeches. The bird on the right is recoiling backwards, again with its beak open as it screeches. Each bird is all white, with a pale pink section around its eye that stretches above its beak , in which its nostrils are placed.

Be rude not to take a photo of a seasonal star, the Ivy #bee. This time of year it's clear to see why Ivy's so important, it's buzzing with bees, flies, and wasps. #MacroMonday #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #UKWildlife
A squre photo that is a close up of an Ivy Bee on a cluster of Ivy flowers. Each ivy flower is like an icecream cone of green on the end of a pale green stalk, radiating from the ivy stem. Eacy flower is about the size of the little bees head. The bee is drinking from one flower with it's antennae pointed downwards. It has large black eyes, with an fuzzy orange face, and very pale hairs being its eye. The thorax is covered in short orange hairs, and the abdomen is striped with black and pale yellow.

The Clouded Yellow is a migrant to the UK and doesn't, AFAIK, survive our winters (it will eventually, but needs its foodplants to be in bloom over winter to do so, not just about temperature as it doesn't hibernate). Nevertheless, it does breed here, and has done on this farm patch as there were lots of pristine specimens around. A friend saw hundreds a couple of days ago, I think I topped out counting at about 50.

A square photo of a spider on its web. The background is black and the strands of the web are white, highlighted by the sunlight shining on them frm outu of frame. The spider is backlit so, although the main body is the usual dark black and brown with white dots and lines making a cross shape down its centre, the legs and head are glowing where they should be a light colour, as the sun shines through. It brings out the dark and light bands on the legs in particular. The spider is head down int he frame with the legs pulled in close to the body, ready to scurry after anything unfortunate enough to get caught in the web.
