#Arachtober 1: the lights on this pedestrian bridge create giant spider shadows! The casters are the appropriately named bridge spiders, _Larinioides sclopetarius_. #DailySpiderPic #spiders #orbweavers #Araneae #Araneidae
A pedestrian bridge by night, with downward-facing lights set underneath the wooden railings. A spider has built its web directly beneath one, creating a giant spider shadow on the walkway.A further-out view showing the bridge curving away, with dozens of similar lights. An orbweaver spider at the centre of its symmetrical, wheel-like web. It has a darker leaf-like marking (the folium) on the top side of its abdomen which looks a little like a fleur-de-lys.

They did a pretty good job! Only a few corn stalks left!
A whole bunch of goats who know I have apples in my pockets. One is so close to the camera you can only see her eye, one is staring intensely into your soul (hoping for apples), and the others are jockeying for position. In the background, the two livestock guardian dogs are booping noses, and in the farther background is the remains of the frost-killed garden beds, with just a few corn stalks still standing.

A broad-nosed weevil walking along a log fence, in profile. Its somewhat pear-shaped body is a dark reddish-brown but covered with pale, slightly green-iridescent scales. Its elytra are grooved and covered with small fine hairs. It has a stout, whiskered snout with long elbowed antennae coming off it, and round black compound eyes. One clawed foot is raised.

Went for a lovely nighttime ramble under the full moon in High Park and saw several interesting spiders. I admit I yelled in alarm when I saw this leopard slug (_Limax maximus_, introduced from Europe) by the foot of a tree. It was the size of my thumb!!

Took a little detour to some streetside pollinator gardens while running an errand today and was rewarded with SO. MANY. LOCUST. BORERS. 💛🖤💛 #bloomscrolling #bugstodon #insects #beetles #LonghornBeetles #Coleoptera #Cerambycidae
A yellowjacket was…No! It's a beetle! A beetle with an elongated body, black with yellow markings, that make it look like a wasp at first glance, feeding on pollen from aster-ish yellow flowers (idk I'm not a plantologist). It has long red-brown legs and very long red-brown antennae, as befits a member of the longhorn beetle family (Cerambycidae). Its black, oval eyes have "cutouts" around the base of the antennae, like the cursed phone front camera notch.A head-on view of a locust borer feeding on yellow flowers (goldenrod, I think). The thorax has horizontal stripes of almost fur-like yellow scales. The antennae stretch way out to either side.A locust borer stands with its back two pairs of legs on one flower cluster while grasping another with its front legs to feed.Non-macro shot from above of two locust borers on clumps of small yellow flowers. Goldenrod? Asters? Fuck, are goldenrods asters? Oh shit, they are. Fuck.
