The message is never actually "you should hate x (drag shows, wokeness, whatever) because it's bad," but rather, "you should hate x because *I say* it's bad." Their goal (like that of any tyrant or cult leader) is to become the arbiters of reality.

This exactly is why pointing out hypocrisy doesn't work. All you're really doing is reinforcing the image they are trying to project of a powerful person who is not beholden to the constraints that restrain the rest of us.
