First XC I've piloted in the books! We took a courtesy car and drove around for a bit, then ate at a restaurant that served more food than I could handle. Guard was active on the way back. Two greaser landings, and my CFI let me crack a wing wave out of our home airport. Fantastic day all in all!

Don’t vape onboard. 1- it’s inconsiderate 2- it’s against the rules 3- the smoke detectors can’t differentiate between vaping and smoke. Bells and lights go off. We get an alarm in the cockpit telling us there’s smoke in the cabin. It’s very distracting and noisy.

Busy day yesterday! Spent a chunk of it at Vintage Computer Festival with @radarcornflakes.com and @wontonio.bsky.social. Had a trip down memory lane, learned about some systems and older devices, and learned how to solder (work can be seen on the blue jet - I did the lights, battery, and switch!)

I’m going out on a limb here & will say it was probably the SIC warning & the PIC flying. A captain doesn’t warn a co-pilot; they say “I have the controls” & take over. A co-pilot warns & hopes they are heard. My questions now are about training, experience, operational control & oversight.

My husband was taxiing out in Fairbanks on 9/11 when ATC told all flights to return to the ramp and hold indefinitely. That day remains the FAA’s finest hour, when an unprecedented shutdown of US airspace was flawlessly executed. When anyone bashes the FAA, I think of what the agency did that day.
