The goal for Alaska with its new premium 737 MAX 10s is to close what it considers a “key product gap” in its offering for high-end West Coast fliers. Expect to eventually see the planes in Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle. www.flightglobal.com/strategy/202...

I remain fascinated by JSX's ATR experiment. Turboprops have a stigma in the US, deserved or not, that they are less comfortable than jets — a potential challenge for JSX's upscale customer base. So far, "people really love the airplane," CEO Alex Wilcox tells me.

The Pope at his crazy as fuck 40th birthday party wearing a tiny sea captain hat, holding a tiny ice cream surrounded by THREE sad looking balloons. He's wearing a blue jacket and jeans with a brown belt and he's got a navy polo shirt on.

Another @crankyflier.com Dorkfest in the books. I could tell you about the airplanes, the giveaways and the massive crowds. But instead I want to appreciate that Brett has created a space for me to hang out with my dorky friends & just do what makes us happy. That is pretty darn special - & needed.

R.I.P. Peter Max . #PeterMax #rip #Artist #Artwork #PanAm #Aviation #Avgeek #B747
A colorful psychedelic poster by Peter Max promoting Pan Am’s Boeing 747. A large silver-and-blue Pan Am 747 dominates the composition, flying diagonally from the upper left toward the lower right. Behind the aircraft are brightly colored geometric bands in red, yellow, orange, blue, green, and pink, filled with clusters of white and dark-blue stars, circles, and small planets. The Pan Am globe logo and “747” appear prominently near the top. In the upper-right corner, a whimsical stylized figure in a colorful patterned outfit floats among stars. The lower-right corner features an abstract partial face and additional planetary imagery. A small ringed planet appears in the lower-left corner, while Peter Max’s signature logo is centered along the bottom edge. The overall design uses bold outlines, saturated colors, geometric shapes, and fantastical imagery characteristic of Max’s psychedelic commercial artwork.

Why do some helicopter pilots fail to execute a survivable autorotation after an engine failure? I explored that question in 2013, concluding that many of us underestimate the skill/luck required to make a successful forced landing—or overestimate our own abilities. verticalmag.com/news/failure...

The A380 is the largest commercial plane in the sky. While not a beauty, she is loved by crews and passengers. But with Qantas' surprise announcement that it will begin retiring the superjumbos, the A380s days appear numbered — at least for everyone that's not Emirates.
