JUST IN: Former "Broadview Six" defendants seek special counsel to investigate, and possibly prosecute, Chicago U.S. Attorney's Office officials for criminal contempt. Full filing: cst.brightspotcdn.com/ca/86/6e85af...
DEFENDANTS’ MOTION TO DESIGNATE A SPECIAL COUNSEL TO INVESTIGATE AND, IF WARRANTED BY THE FACTS, PROSECUTE RESPONSIBLE PERSONS FOR CRIMINAL CONTEMPT
Pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 42, Defendants Michael Rabbitt, Katherine Marie Abughazaleh, Andre Martin, Brian Straw and Catherine Sharp (“Defendants”), by and through undersigned counsel, respectfully request this Court appoint special counsel to investigate the misconduct of certain individuals from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois and, if the evidence supports it, prosecute such individuals for criminal contempt. Those who should be investigated for their conduct during the grand jury proceedings and the ensuing cover-up before this Court begin with the line Assistant United States Attorneys assigned to prosecute this case and further includes unidentified supervisory and advisory employees of the United States Attorney’s Office, and the Front Office, which includes Andrew Boutros, the United States Attorney as well as his supervisors in Washington, D.C.Indeed, these steps must be taken in large part because of what appears to be a determined effort to blame a single prosecutor when the misconduct now known – particularly in this case – runs much deeper and indeed to the highest levels of the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office and likely to the Department of Justice in Washington D.C.1 To not appoint a special prosecutor here would enable the government’s strategy to lay all that has happened on a single scapegoat, a convenient outcome for those who are eager to turn the page. The Court has the authority, and we think the obligation, to ensure that those responsible for this unique and sorry chapter—a chapter which has dramatically impacted the lives of multiple Defendants and enduringly sullied the reputation of the U.S. Attorney’s Office earned over decades— are held to account.

/2 Seriously, though, it’s VERY hard to make the showing to win fees on a Hyde Amendment motion, it’s very winnable for the government even when there’s bad misconduct, and it suggests that there is even WORSE stuff that hasn’t come out that they are willing to do ANYTHING to keep quiet.

You might be able to buy into SpaceX's public debut more easily thanks to changes around one major brokerage's account minimums.

Retail investors have to have $2,000 in their brokerage account for the opportunity to access SpaceX shares at its IPO through Fidelity. That marks a major shift from previous rules around IPO participation where investors needed to have as much as $500,000 or in assets depending on the IPO.

"The SpaceX IPO may be available to Fidelity customers with as little as $2,000 in a retail brokerage account, lower than typical IPO requirements due to increased share availability," the brokerage outlined.

THANK YOU!
A big tent will bring people who have internal contradictions. And that is not unique to young people’s organizing. I think part of it is that the way we cover some of the more middle-age middle class, if I’m frank, the more holdover from the 1960s ideal of protesting — the way we cover them does not get into those contradictions nearly as much as we get into young people’s organizing.

To your point, I think we hold them to unfair standards, right? In part, I think, because we kind of resent them for living in this little bubble of a socialist utopia — which is what college is — and so we’re a little resentful of that, and we think that our organizing is more practical and material.
