I get that not everyone understands that baking is a precise science but surely, surely there is no way you genuinely thought you could replace the sugar in your cake with "calorie free cofee sweetener tablets" and blame it on the recipe being bad
r/BakingNoobs
u/burnt_bread_54 • 23h • reddit
Tried making a cake...

I tried making a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, and this was supposed to be the base for it.
It was even supposed to be a bit on the healthier side, so I substituted the sugar for a 1200 pill pack of those calorie free cofee sweetener tablets.
It was in the oven for maybe 7 minutes at the reccomended temperature and turned out like this.
Did this happen because 1 misread 2 tea spoons of baking soda for 2 table spoons or was I just unlucky and used a bad recepie?

One under-discussed aspect of the vibecession is how interest rates for credit cards, autos, and mortgages all jumped in 2022 with the Fed hikes then never came back down. It's hardly a surprise consumers get bad vibes from that.
The share of families reporting being behind on loan payments jumped from 12% in 2022 to 20% in 2025. But the size of a family’s typical debt load remained unchanged from the prior survey. ### Alt-Text Summary (178 words)

> A multi-line chart titled *"10-Year Evolution of U.S. Consumer Borrowing Costs (2016–2026)"* illustrating benchmark interest rates from Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) across credit cards, new car loans, and 30-year fixed mortgages.
>
> Unsecured revolving credit cards consistently carry a ~15% premium over secured debt. Commercial bank credit card rates for accounts assessed interest climbed from 13.61% in late 2016 to 22.36% by late 2026, reaching a post-tightening peak of 23.37% in May 2024. All-account credit card rates follow in parallel, rising from 12.41% to 21.19%.
>
> Meanwhile, collateralized installment loans move in close alignment. Benchmark 30-year fixed mortgages fell to a historic low of 2.65% during the January 2021 pandemic easing before surging to 7.40% by October 2026 (peaking at 7.79% in late 2023). Commercial bank 60-month new auto loans similarly rose from 4.05% in 2016 to 7.54% in 2026 (peaking at 8.40%).
>
> Two shaded vertical bands highlight key macroeconomic events: the 2020 COVID-19 recession and the 2022–2023 Federal Reserve rate-hiking cycle (+525 bps), which triggered the steep upward trajectory across all consumer borrowing costs.

Far too many people simply hate children for existing
Neighbor blasts an ultrasonic device audible and painful only to children whenever they pass on the public sidewalk.

Was riding bikes with my daughter and a friend to school this morning. We passed a house and they both started yelling, "Ow! It hurts my ears." Really strange, right? Then I hear a voice play through a speaker who says, "If it hurts your ears, ride your bikes somewhere else!"

Now I'm angry. Literally doing nothing but riding bikes to school, probably one of the most wholesome activities a person could imagine, and...I can't even get my brain around it.

It's apparently not loud, but it is tuned to a frequency higher than I can hear. If it's low enough for my children to hear it, it's going to be almost useless as an animal deterrent. It is specifically designed to cause pain to humans and serves no other purpose.

How is this legal?

Location: Minnesota, Twin Cities suburb

Promises of transparency are easy to make and even easier to break. Let's explore how awash every step of FOIA is in bs, starting with the most transparent admin in history's Budget Office telling the NYT on the record that transparency spending is "waste"
In debate to override President Ford’s veto of the 1974 FOIA amendments, Rep. John Dent (D-PA) observed that, in July 1776, our Republic was founded by a people “tired of hearing nothing from Mother England but dictums as to how to conduct their affairs and where they were to send taxes.” Now, 250 Julys later, we come back to government by imperial decrees which rebuke explanation. OMB has explicitly divested the executive branch from transparency. In its own words:

The number of FOIA requests from leftist activist groups has exploded due to Trump Derangement Syndrome and it would not be serving the American peoples’ desire for a smaller, leaner government to waste money hiring additional FOIA processors to address this bourgeoning cottage industry of political activists. In working with limited budgets, we choose to hire ICE officers instead of FOIA processors.

there’s so much to unpack here.
Stacks of Dude Wipes. The packaging is black on the left and orange on the right. The left has a white toilet with a pumpkin sitting on it with the :o expression on its face. Lucky for us, it says “plant sourced fibers” on the packaging.

The scent…flavor…? is “DUMPKIN SPICE” and no, that is not a typo.

Some packets have a sticker that says “XL WIPES 99% WATER AND PLANT BASED INGREDIENTS” others claim these are flushable wipes.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FLUSHABLE WIPE YOUR PLUMBER WILL HAUNT YOUR ACTUAL ASS DONT DO IT.
