Given the lack of constraints employed by OpenAI in this instance, the agent was arguably working as intended, using every available tool to generate the answers it was asked to provide: arstechnica.visitlink.me/d2djD-

Here's what actually happened in OpenAI's Australian gov't server hack
Without a "full set of safeguards," agent accessed "system information and source code."

people thinking if they can use chatgpt to do a skill devalued by chatgpt doing it for them imagine they'll now be rich or famous like people who did the skill before everyone could have a computer do it for them, also misunderstanding how most people who did the skill before were not rich or famous

This is a wild headline. When the best historical news hook you can come up with is "the PS5 logo debuted there" you might want to rethink... everything that led to this moment. www.gamesradar.com/hardware/for...

For the first time in 60 years, Sony will skip the huge convention it once used to reveal the PS5 logo because now it’s focusing on "technology geared to support creators"
It also marked the birth of PlayStation in a way

Started integrating juggling weighted one-pound balls into my workout routine a few times a week and let me tell you, it is now by far my favorite way to move 3,000 aggregate pounds in a ~15 minute period.

I think if you meaningfully punish OpenAI & co for all of these cyberattacks then they will stop doing them. Whether or not you want to anthropomorphize the agents, you gotta just land there.

Any analysis of the Iran War that doesn't start and end with the fact that an entire cottage industry of think tankers and lobbyists and their friends in Congress were frothing at the mouth for literal decades for this got exactly what they wanted and it failed immediately and totally is wrong.

talking about water use policy is impossible because "AI data centers use a lot of water to cool the computers" sounds way more believable than "they're draining the Great Salt Lake so the Governor of Utah can sell alfalfa to Saudi Arabia" and yet

I’d add to this that it’s a case of relative expectations, especially among pundits. “A guy with this much baggage should be getting 35% of the vote but he’s eking out weird plurality victories, so he’s amazing”

A lot of the worries that "AI agents are hacking things even when they weren't asked to" should really just be worries that "AI agents are able to hack things a lot more easily than humans." If the capability is there, someone is gonna use it. "Misalignment" is almost tangential.
