One of the most incredible photos I have ever been sent, courtesy of Chloë James of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Seagrass Restoration Team. Yep, that's Philodromus margaritatus...under seawater using...an air bubble to breathe and move about. I am utterly speechless!! @britishspiders.bsky.social

Despite having done my PhD on spider vibration sensing I confess I haven't exactly developed my ID skills for British spiders - nonetheless I did recognise this as something interesting today when it jumped onto my leg whilst birding from the garden terrace at the Life and Mind Building, Oxford 1/2

#spidereggsac2026 It's tough being a black widow spider, you're just doting on your egg sac day in, day out, then a centipede comes along to cause trouble. Fastest I've seen her move the egg sac out of the nest/hole. She's really doing a great job protecting her egg sac.

It’s getting hard to ignore the (honestly appalling) number of comments implying that this finding should be another reason to not-so-subtly suggest that spiders deserve to be terminated in any number of grisly ways. (1/6)
