As wildfires burn at home in 🇵🇹 and here in CA, we have a new paper that finds: exposure to fires doesn’t necessarily predict greater support for climate change mitigation. But people closest to the 2021-2022 fires do prioritize personal adaptive action. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

We are collecting names to assemble a writing team to respond to the DOE climate working group report. If you'd like to contribute, enter your info below. At this point, there is no guarantee what we'll do (if anything), but we want to keep our options open by collecting names. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me. We are primarily looking for Ph.D. scientists at universities or government labs in appropriate fields. I realize that this will exclude some qualified people and I apologize, but we felt this was necessary for a variety of reasons.

Over half of companies report that their business was impacted by climate-related events in the past year, increasing costs
57% of companies experienced an impact on their operations from climate-related events in the past year, with APAC companies citing a much higher incidence (73%). Extreme heat was the most common, named by 55% of those who saw any impact (65% in APAC). Extreme weather or storms rank second (53%) and are the most common in North America (57%).
Increased costs are the most common way that businesses are impacted (54%), followed by worker disruption (40%) and revenue losses (39%).

The stickiness of the IRA is a feature, not a bug. More than 3/4 of announced IRA clean energy investment is going to Republican districts. In a close house, it won't take many votes to thwart a repeal of manufacturing tax credits.

Opposition to wind energy involves small numbers of people: in the US, the median number of protest participants was 23, in Canada it was 34. Compare that to the 75,000 people who protested this month against climate inaction in NYC alone.
