Nicole is a leading expert on the issue of campus sexual violence. I am floored that USA Today would do this to her. I find this kind of journalistic behavior unethical and morally reprehensible, twisting an interview with a renowned advocate for survivors into a hit piece against a survivor.

I put in a system of French drains to route water around the house 8 years ago and if the climate has shifted enough that we're regularly going to get downpours like the one we just did, I may have to spend many a weekend this winter aggressively redoing the whole thing. Holy shit.

One thing to consider about polls in the upcoming election: In red states the election structure is tipped to give republicans a 5 or 6 point advantage at minimum. So a tie in a survey is gonna be a five-point loss on Election Day.

We can disagree on the merits of the death penalty and what circumstances warrant it, but it is absolutely atrocious that the State of Tennessee and a majority of the US Supreme Court went out of their way to ensure that she died today.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

This is the most important thing men can do, and they must be doing it immediately. People create culture. People can change it. If you can't remember the last time you created some social awkwardness by telling another man to stop with that shit, you probably aren't pulling your weight.

if we were numerate enough--if we understood how many women and girls are made sacrifice to the altar of promising young men with bright futures--we might not survive it. accounting for that loss will take the rest of my life, and yours. but we've got to; that's the only way of killing the thing.

An important thing we’ve been practicing for YEARS already with our 3 year old twin boys. “Can I give you a kiss?” And if they say “no” we don’t give them a damn kiss. They now ask us, too, and we practice that it’s okay to be disappointed and also FINE if we ever say no. This is about Cornell.
