Fun film fact. In Escape from New York (1981) they used reflective tape on a miniature model of the city & filmed it under black light to approximate 'cutting-edge' wireframe CG, which would have blown the budget at the time.

seriously trump's current line about "we put it back in the states where everybody wanted it" is sheer bullshit lunacy. but the thing you always have to remember with trump is, just imagine him as a salesman reeking of desperation who will say whatever it fuckin takes to close the deal.

Most think of proposed mass deportation as the removal of foreigners. No: The plan explicitly includes the mass deportation of *US citizens*. It is not about who should get US citizenship. It is about some US citizens illegitimizing other US citizens.

AI is a tool of the capitalist class to automate everything and keep more of the profits to themselves. Automation doesn't mean your job gets easier, it means your job gets ELIMINATED. And when this is happening in every industry, there are fewer jobs for you to move on to.

Sidney Lumet on the "lens plot" he used to increase the tension in 12 Angry Men. So cool.
...a "lens plot" occurred to me. As the picture unfolded, I wanted the room to seem smaller and smaller. That meant that I would slowly shift to longer lenses as the picture continued. ... In addition, I shot the first third of the movie above eye level, and then, by lowering the camera, shot the second third at eye level, and the last third from below eye level. In that way, toward the end, the ceiling began to appear. Not only were the walls closing in, the ceiling was as well. The sense of increasing claustrophobia did a lot to raise the tension of the last part of the movie.

Small portion of the deep universe. Almost every spec of light here is a distant galaxy, containing countless of stars. Processed JWST/NIRCam data by @thocarp.bsky.social p www.flickr.com/photos/19746... 🔭 🧪
A deep-field image of a massive galaxy cluster, SPT-CLJ0151-5954, taken by the James Webb Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). The image shows a vast number of galaxies, both young and old, in a wide range of colors and shapes. The cluster is so massive that it acts as a gravitational lens, warping the light of galaxies behind it and magnifying them. This allows us to see galaxies that are too faint to be detected with other telescopes.

The image is filled with details, including bright, active galaxies, distant, faint galaxies, and clusters of galaxies. The colors in the image represent different wavelengths of light, with blue and green representing shorter wavelengths and red representing longer wavelengths. The overall effect is a stunning and awe-inspiring view of the universe on a massive scale.

A disturbing thing about this attitude is that it treats queer male sexuality like it’s primarily a cultural product. It’s also really similar to what happens with trans women in fiction. Trans female imagery and stories are made into artistic opportunities for others, while we get pushed out them.
