Technologically very impressive but this stuff scares the crap out of me from a societal perspective. Just the sheer amount of fraud alone that these models will enable is chilling, let alone all the other harms.

Marcel Duchamp kicked the bucket 55 slutty, slutty years ago and you can't get him out of your head.
You're half as old as he is dead and you are worshiping at his altar, you are drinking his piss. He won.

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas. Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

"Higher velocity = more good" is a misunderstanding premised on the idea that every piece of work on your Jira board is there because it adds value in some way. Once you understand that the majority of developer tickets are actually negative-value, you will become enlightened.

Anti trans hatred is the same as any other anti-gay, religious, or racial hatred we have ever known. This includes the efforts to dress it up, hide it, and make it about protecting women or children. That's exactly what bigots did to Black and gay people.

What "significant new opportunities" though? I most want more opportunities to laugh with my friends; to dance in the rain; to gasp at an unexpected view, or to hear a stranger sing hauntingly of lost love in a sun-dappled city square. Can AI give me those, Mark? Can it? No. No it fucking can't.

this is the thing about automation, as every automation Knower will tell you: you automate the repetitive tasks; the more variability and idiosyncracy there is (aka the real world) the fewer zeroes you get after the decimal on reliability, pretty soon the results are unacceptable

I have a growing suspicion that, on balance, the inevitable outcome of AI artifacts inserted into mostly-human systems is breakdown and chaos. I think this effect is why LLMs are especially effective at code, and why most orgs aren't seeing outsize productivity gains the way some individuals have.

It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
