Blade Runner takes place forty years In the future.
Not so much science fiction as it is more of a futurism story.
How do things seem to be forty years from now?

This is a sick civilization. An open call to genocide. It is clear that Gaza is how we got here- tolerating genocide in one space begets another. Generations of our ancestors have worked to build something different, toward the preservation of earthly life. I hope I live to see this re-orientation.

What was normalized in Gaza will have lasting effects on the entire world. It was a signal to the worst of humanity that they can get away with even livestreamed genocide. And we see that very genocide expanding today, and Trump joining in not under cover like Biden, but front & center.

second: there's stuff NYC mayor mamdani could be doing now to backstop care for all the trans teens cut off by the sudden stoppage. in fact, he campaigned on it. afaik, he hasn't even properly addressed it. you can't call NYC a fucking “refuge" if it's institutions don't provide essential care!🧵
Expand and Protect Gender Affirming Care Citywide
A private institution operating with a quarter-billion dollar public subsidy should not have the ability to sell out young trans New Yorkers to the Trump administration. Yet, that's exactly what happened when NYU Langone decided to stop providing gender-affirming care for trans youth. Soon after, other private NYC hospitals also stopped providing necessary lifesaving healthcare for trans youth. These decisions are in direct contradiction with New York state law. The Mamdani administration will protect gender-affirming care immediately by investing $65 million in public providers to provide gender-affirming care to New Yorkers who seek it and will hold private entities abetting Trump's attacks to account.
The Mamdani Administration will budget $65 million in funding to explicitly support and expand access to Gender Affirming Care (GAC) in NYC. It will direct $57 million of to public hospitals, community clinics, federally qualified health centers, and nonprofits providing GAC. In the face of the Trump administration's proposed elimination of federal support for GAC and his threats to care for adults, this infusion will protect GAC access for both transgender youth and adults. $8 million will be directed to:
• Develop and support virtual and telehealth GAC and delivery of GAC treatment by community health providers
• Add GAC to New York Health + Hospitals VirtualCare.
• Establish a City-based GAC Access Hub to direct those seeking GAC to providers based on their individual situations.
• Provide aftercare, home health support, and respite housing.
• Support health programs like Callen-Lorde Community Health Centers COIN Clinic (Cecilia's Occupational Inclusion Network).
The Mamdani administration will also hold private hospital systems denying GAC accountable — hospitals that continue to deny trans youth access to gender affirming care are in violation of NYS Constitution, as well as multiple state and city laws. The Ma…

New art up in Bushwick a few blocks from where ICE kidnapped a man off his stoop and then were driven out of Brooklyn by the community defenders who mobilized against them.
A mural on the side of a row of houses on a street corner featuring the statue of liberty and an immigrant mom holding her bundled up baby in front of the NYC skyline, piles of mangos below her to signify NYC’s “mango ladies,” women who sell cut up mangoes to people in the subways and on the street — vendors who’ve been harassed and ticketed and had all their items confiscated for trying to make a living. the text on the mural isn’t very legible from a distance, but in the upper right corner it says HANDSOFFNYC.COM and in the upper left corner it says:
