My YIMBY take: Every trans 18 year old who is stuck living w unsupportive family should be able to afford an apartment in a vibrant urban space w transit on a min wage job. (+raise the min wage). Build so much housing that that is the norm. Same for others stuck in bad situations

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

Exposing Trump's scheme to illegally withhold aid to coerce Ukraine into lying to help Trump's reelection got the aid released. Important point. I don't know how some Dems talked themselves into thinking the best way to counter criminality is to let it slide, rather than investigate and expose it.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

GOP ads right now are all about attacking trans people. Over, and over, and over. I was a gay teen in 2004 watching the Bush campaign try to win on attacking gay marriage, but the resort to this hate drive in campaign ads feels so dialed up now. I can’t imagine being an lgbt kid watching tv today.

the birthright citizenship question is, to me, the clearest evidence that originalism as practiced is just living constitutionalism for right-wing jurists. the originalist answer is the conventional one is the textual one, but that was basically unacceptable to much of the right.

Thinking about my father here. Yes I know how awful this is, but he used to say that people from India were his “favorite minority.” A dig at basically everyone else—including me. As I’ve said many times, low-trust coalitions are unstable. They’re not how you get a high-trust society.
