Written entirely from a state security perspective, with no consideration of the migrants so used, nothing about their voices, and nothing about how Europe's hard borders and obsessional hostility to refugees turns the issue into an opportunity for hostile states (cf also Morocco, Turkey)

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:
Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

Refugee Action @refugeeaction.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Can you imagine fleeing war and persecution, only to have violent mobs attempt to storm the place you live? When politicians scapegoat migrants and refugees, it doesn't just stay in Westminster. This is the result.
The image features a bold message stating, "Everyone should feel safe in their homes. Refugees are no exception." Below, there are two news headlines: one from The Times about asylum seekers taken to safety during Thetford protests, and one from the Daily Mirror about police escorting residents to safety during anti-immigration protests in Thetford. The word "safe" is highlighted in green, and "no exception" is highlighted in orange.

Its conclusion was assumed in its premise. Of course UBI will help because UBI does more than the authors assume.
