Sometimes I browse through heritage auctions and I find the occasional odd gem, but today I stumbled upon the mother-load: these ridiculous grocery store ads promoting the release of The Jungle Book, and each one has me absolutely reeling. Sharing them here so you too can share in my bewildered joy

It does look as though the main problem Andy Burnham is going to face is that despite his promises to try & fix the country, it will inevitably involve a lot of people with more money than they can ever spend having to give up some of it. And as they will tell their editors, that will never do.

Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

Annoying grammar sticklers, now is your moment to shine. Be more like Ian.
Private eye letters page:

Proscription charges
Sir, I can't believe I was
arrested this afternoon at Parliament Square SECONDS after holding up a placard. I deliberately wanted to show the absurdity of the current legislation by carefully
wording my placard to read as follows:
"I oppose genocide. I support Palestine (full stop here, if your screen reader didnt pick it up). Action needed now!" Naively I assumed I couldn't be arrested as technically if you read the placard text carefully I was not expressing support for a
proscribed organisation. I am of a generation that thought that Britain believed in free speech, and I simply wanted to express my utter horror at the present situation in Gaza. But the strategically placed full stop failed tocsave me

Reggie Watts addresses Thom Yorke’s statement on Palestine and it’s good
Reggie Watts statement, 1 of 2:

“I was disappointed to see that Thom's statement centers his hurt feelings and frames his fans' demands for him to speak up as a "social media witch hunt," instead of recognizing the urgency of their call for him to speak out against the world-historical humanitarian crisis in Palestine. I hope Thom will reflect and decenter himself from the public outcry against the genocide, because if he and his artistic legacy stand for love and humanity as he asserts, he can come to see his fans' actions as an act of loving solidarity with suffering people-a needed affirmation of our humanity in these dark times.”Reggie Watts statement 2 of 2:

“I also want to address Thom's repetition of a common rhetorical tactic of those who are devoted to maintaining the status quo, that one cannot speak up or demand an end to the genocide unless they fully understand the deep
"complexity" of this historical conflict. I urge Thom's fans to reject this conviction-neutralizing, demobilizing sentiment and trust their hearts. You don't need to be a geopolitics scholar to know that starving children and slaughtering families is wrong. Your membership in the human family gives you authority and, indeed, responsibility to speak up. All positive change starts with conscious and loving people raising their voices and working together to bring a better world into existence. Please keep fighting until our sisters and brothers in Palestine are free.”
