I don't think the Republican Party can "go back to normal" but if it did, that just means being a vehicle for undermining government and concentrating wealth, enveloped in a bunch of dishonest obfuscatory slop. Why yearn for something to return to the exact thing that fostered it

It’s also notable that the accountability systems are often designed by the police and police unions to be as ineffective as possible and to stand in the way of accountability while convincing the public they’re serious about accountability, just trust us but don’t look too closely.

The cops shot a man as he was trying to enter his own apartment, killing him and shooting holes in the neighboring apartment where other people were luckily not hit. Then cops conspired to fabricate believable probable cause for killing the man.

what i really regret is the bastardization of intersectionality. crenshaw's insight was that systems of oppression intersect in complex ways, rather than merely additive ones. as a result looking for a singular scale of oppression that delivers an ordinal ranking of all groups is a fool's errand

Since this breaking point arrives as a result of oligarchy, in which nearly all the world's wealth has been hoarded by a tiny number of people, those aristocrats are disproportionately impoverished by the conflagration.

If 90% of the wealth is in the hands of 1% of the people, a war or disaster that wipes out most capital will mostly destroy the wealth of the 1%. The poor suffer terribly, but they start with nothing - and end with nothing.

I'll need to trawl through my files to see if I can track where that money went. Meanwhile, records show GCSO is also billing ICE for "ICE overtime," to the tune of thousands of dollars a month. For some, this is ~$100/month; for others, $1000s, equal to 10% to 20% of their salary & hours recorded.

I have FOIA'd records from GCSO showing one of these payments, for the round sum of $180,000 -- which, at $15K each, would imply 12 task force members at the time -- for "IT and equipment."
A 4/30/26 payment record from ICE, labeled "298(g) TFM [Task Force Model] Service Provider 2026 IT and Equipment Incentives" with the subject "Greene County Sheriff's Office 287g report Jan 1-Mar 31, 2026," with a payment of $180,000 divided equally between "Information Technology" and "Equipment."

An illustration done mostly with digital colored pencils. Ok, so we have a wooden coffin in the classic top-heavy hexagon shape. The coffin is propped up at an angle on nothing against a background of gray-blue paint splatters as a spooky sheet ghost rises out of it. Although it’s not a real sheet as it’s translucent and there’s nothing inside of it except a gape-mouthed green skull in the approximate head position within the sheet. The ghost is wearing a big. floppy, black witch’s hat and there’s a little brown bat hanging down from the wide brim. The ghost’s arms are extended holding a jack o’ lantern with a one-toothed frowny face carved into it. Popping out of the jack o’ lantern is a a black cat with green eyes balancing the cap of the pumpkin on his head. And on the stem of the pumpkin cap is a very serious-looking brown speckled owl. A series of spooky speech balloons is chained together around all this , each balloon containing one word and associating back tot he spooks and creatures named in the reverse order listed. The lettering in the balloons is red and drippy and reads ‘Maybe it will happen today’.

From the Magna Carta to the Constitution to the Emancipation Proclamation to 19th Amendment, voting rights (what you might call "Big P" Politics) were always downstream of protests, riots, petitions, mass movements, strikes and good, old fashioned community organizing (that is, "small p" politics).

Which is to say, Big P politics matter, but to *make* them matter, we need a lot of small p politics. That means that democracy isn't something you do every couple of years with a ballot paper (though that's an important aspect of the process). Democracy is continuous.
