Republicans Don’t Know Ball Update: A hockey blogger asked the two Michigan Senate candidates for statements on the Red Wings. Rogers: blah blah Michigan loves the Red Wings El-Sayed: angry rant about how the cheap owners MUST pay Detroit’s young star defenseman octopusthrower.com/what-each-mi...
"Hockeytown, USA will always be a coveted destination for the world's top players,"
Rogers said. "The Detroit Red Wings boast one of the league's most storied and respected histories, dating back to their days as one of the Original Six franchises.
Few professional organizations can match the tradition, legacy and rpestige that define this iconic franchise. GO WINGS!""I was at the game when Darren McCarty took on Claude Lemieux," El-Sayed said.
"The '97 and '98 Stanley Cup championships are still highlights of my childhood. The teams the last few years have been a far cry from the Wings I came to love as a kid. They're stacking losing season on losing season, yet the llitch family's wealth has done nothing but grow.
Michiganders are sick of sky-high ticket and concession prices buying them nothing but disappointment."The team holding out on Simon Edvinsson is just the latest example in a long series of ownership prioritizing their bottom line over the team and the fans. Our teams aren't just assets for billionaires, they're part of our culture and heritage. Hockeytown deserves better."

Rubio needs to release a DNA test to prove that his Western bloodline wasn't sullied by the local indigenous population and that his Spanish ancestry was undiluted by the Berber conquest. Or, you know, he could adopt the basic liberal principles of our country.

You can buy a huge media conglomerate with money you don't have using leveraged debt you'll never pay off and then immediately start firing its workers, but people will still say that capitalism is compatible with democracy and is capable of "reform" or "regulation"

This makes me hopeful. This number is aspirational but nowhere near out of reach: a working professional could realistically cash out their 401k and buy off a public official. Owning a senator is more attainable for most Americans than home ownership.

The administration characterizes the boat bombing campaign as a "war" to excuse premeditated killings that would otherwise just be murder. But the hostilities with Iran are not a war at all. Got it.

It’s mind-blowing that we have literal white nationalists in the White House carrying out unfathomably cruel, abusive, white nationalist policies, and the punditariat has spent the last two weeks debating if some people were too intemperate after a Black man was murdered by cops six years ago.

For many years I wondered, "how bad will Republicans have to get before the media/political establishment in the US gets over its endless obsession with scolding & tone policing the left?" I think at this point we have to acknowledge that the answer is: never. Literally never.

Post from @hailey.at that says

“bsky isnt ready for this but, if you need a reason to not use words like "clanker" that isn't "well its kinda not a great thing to do" (it isn't) imagine this:

future model that has you in its training data, knows you posted that word online with joy, and denies your insurance claim as a result”4 panel comic

Panel 1:
Pink guy standing next to a toaster with a piece of very burnt toast. He says “Urgh, you useless fucking bolt box”

Transition that reads “12 Years Later”

Panel 2:
Pink Guy bursts into a hospital with his unconscious son in his arms. He yells: “somebody help me. My son is very sick”

Panel 3:
There is a shadowy doctor in the foreground. Pink Guy implores him “Doctor, please” the Doctor replies, “well well”

Panel 4: The Doctor reveals himself and oh my god is the toaster from the first panel who has now become sentient and got his doctorate. He sneers “wellll well well well well well”

Some of the richest people in the world want a racial caste system, and they want scholarly backing for that in the form of racist pseudoscience. And a lot of ostensibly non racist people quietly agree, and don’t like to see those who peddle that pseudoscience excluded from mainstream institutions.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but if people who support AI are being shamed into silence then it's working. The shame is working as intended. The left's biggest problem is that it's afraid to hurt the feelings of folks who need to have their feelings hurt. Let them experience introspection for once

uhhhhh
investigation was originally developed for The New York Times, where it underwent eight months of editing, multiple rounds of fact-checking, and independent replication of the underlying methodology. The piece had a scheduled publication date when requests for comment were sent. It was only after the Times reached out to the subjects of the investigation for routine comment that the Elias Law Group, representing the DCCC and DSCC, sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding the paper not publish. Although the paper's fact-checkers and legal department later cleared the piece before sending out a second round of requests for comment, the Times ultimately decided to kill the piece.3:27
a4democracy.substack.com
The piece was subsequently slated for publication at The Bulwark, where it underwent additional fact-checking, data verification, and legal review. When requests for comment were sent to the subjects of the investigation, lawyers representing the Progressive Turnout Project and Mothership Strategies likewise responded with legal letters demanding that the article not run.
From there, publication was repeatedly delayed. The piece cleared successive rounds of legal review. When I asked for a committed publication date after months of delay, The Bulwark conditioned publication on my accepting an extensive rewrite prepared by its editors that, in my assessment, removed key empirical findings without explanation, introduced claims contradicted by the data and fact-checking record, and presented the subjects' legal defenses as my own conclusions. When I declined to publish under those terms, the piece was released back to me.

I think one reason the public has such a shallow understanding of the extent of the damage Trump is doing is that *US political & media elites* have such a shallow understanding. Douthat's pleasant upper-middle-class life hasn't been unduly disturbed, so really, what's the big deal?
