Oh and @peterwalker99.bsky.social has written a sensible piece around ebikes and road danger. It makes a change from the hysteria coming from the likes of the BBC, Telegraph and others. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

When is an ebike not an ebike? When it has a powerful illegal engine. Get this menace off our roads | Peter Walker
As a cyclist I want the authorities to act with clarity. Lime bikes and renters can be annoying, but the true threat is those who dangerously flout the law, says the Guardian’s senior political corres...

Just another tidbit of info, those store packaged salads done up by the grocers, Sobey's, Loblaws, the produce comes in bulk, lettuce, and much of the produce used in those prepackaged salads, veg & fruit are US produce. Do not buy them, I checked at Sobey's and the lettuce, etc. is all US product

In which @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social shows why we should pay attention to every detail of street design down to the steepness of the ramp where vehicles cross pavements. If we care about older and disabled people getting around safely, and obviously I think we should, this stuff matters.

I see an attempt here to link free bus travel for young people to bad behaviour and even death, but no link to the deaths definitely caused by teenage drivers. Am I surprised? www.bbc.com/news/article...

How has free bus travel for young people worked in Scotland?
As England moves to give people under the age of 15 free bus travel, under-22s in Scotland have had free bus passes for four years.

People who would be rightly horrified at the idea that it would be reasonable to threaten to punch someone for being slow at a supermarket checkout will nonetheless openly & unrepentantly threaten people with lethal force simply for using the road if it causes them minor delay while driving.

Gas prices have been an interesting inroad to talking to car guys about alternatives. Truck loving coworkers suddenly think my hybrid is great. Others are in awe when I say I only drive to work, and predominantly walk or bike on weekends. Cars are making them miserable. They don’t want this.

"The driver, Robert Whiting, was jailed for eight years for causing her death while driving unqualified, uninsured, and under the influence of drugs." What a pile of criminal driving. The penalties as actually served don't come anywhere close to adequate.

This is real progress. Lives will be saved. Fewer young people will be left disabled. Roads will be safer. Tho why did it take so long to introduce this when the evidence is overwhelming? Why not roll it out UK-wide? It will happen eventually but delay has consequences. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Trump is either leaving office peacefully, or he's going to be forcefully removed. The U.S. Armed Forces have a choice: Either support the American people and the constitution — or a fascist authoritarian regime that is a facsimile of Hitler's Third Reich.

I’m so saddened to hear of the closure of RoadPeace for financial reasons. The charity did so much good — supporting crash victims, standing with bereaved families at their darkest moments, & tirelessly campaigning for safer roads. I hope one day it can be re-established & continue its vital work.

Let alone their future driving permissions… Why is road crime treated differently to other crime? IMO complacency and acceptance of road danger as inevitable have dulled accountability. Strategy isn’t enough — we need a fundamental root & branch cultural reset. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...
