It's obviously bait to call 2026 a weak year for games but it's been such a good year. VHOLUME, Big Walk, Incident at Galley House, 868-BACK, Cairn?? Slay the Spire 2???? Penguin Colony and 500 Finger Fillet before the year's out??????? What planet do you need to be on to consider it weak lol.

I like how the water flows in some games (Terraria, Noita) but unfortunately, these games are wrong about physics: connected surfaces do not balance to the same level. Here is a simple simulation which does balance correctly. The @ is taken by the currents. #rulfoa

holy shit this would be a game changer
Summary
Persistent widgets are embedded browsing contexts, like iframes, but they can persist across same-origin navigations without reloading. Persistent widgets can be used via the <persistentwidget> HTML element. The <persistentwidget> HTML element takes a src attribute, like an iframe. In order to make the <persistentwidget> survive a navigation, all of these conditions must be met: 1. The navigation must be to a same-origin document. 2. The <persistentwidget> element must have the same src and id HTML attributes in both documents. 3. The <persistentwidget> element must be attached to the new document before its first render.

We are at a time where a few online kingdoms are trying to centralize control of attention. Meanwhile, more people can build than ever before and this is the biggest threat to the current kings. Our bet is on the future builders.
App creation on atproto is accelerating, and the constraint on every builder is the same: they need data and users. We have both, and the ability for data and services to be composable and remixable, encouraging collaboration across apps and experiences. We’re solving many pain points for builders, such as moderation, notification delivery, etc. We have 46 million accounts’ worth of social data on the open web, and the userbase we’ve built is disproportionately made up of very online people building the next forms of media, games, communities, and experiences. The Bluesky app is how they find each other and discover what’s happening in other spaces, on- and off-platform.

Our goal has always been to build an open ecosystem: a new generation of apps and experiences built on top of open social data, with an open distribution channel for builders at a moment when platform economics on closed ecosystems are moving against them.

atproto has one big idea: apps should be lenses rather than boxes this idea is still unknown to majority of internet users. even to the majority of web developers we’re still at a phase where, if you explain it to someone, you can literally see it clicking for them in real time

One thing I like to do is to check clickhouse to see what lexicons have been the most active over the last two months. That's how you learn that a Japanese study app (studynext.app) is the second most active Atproto application right now.
A markdown table showing the current top 25 top-level NSIDs:

A dark-themed table ranking namespace ID roots by activity. The columns are “#,” “nsid root,” “events,” “distinct lexicons,” and “share.”
