I'm sick of saying this but every arts, language and music department that closes denies pupils a future choice. As is said here, languages in particular can be taken with other subjects. Every week my own daughter's options narrow. Why teach languages at all if they cant be taken further?

Technology is just a tool. Al can replicate, but can it yearn? Can an algorithm understand the weight of a glance between two people who can't express their feelings? Can code capture the way memory distorts and reshapes our past?

This thread is so important because it gets at the AI industry’s central failure of imagination. While I’ve met exceptions to the rule in Silicon Valley, most human beings do not reduce their sense of being alive to a stream of successive task completions, and find it a truly alienating vision.

It really sets in stark relief the asymmetry of coverage of the "debate" over trans and women's rights across our media. On the GC side court losses are reported as wins, racism is glossed over and hate is endlessly sane-washed. Meanwhile successes on the pro-trans side are met with silence or lies.
