Three researchers at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) have each been awarded a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) this year. Daniel Kirschenbaum, Lena Kutscher, and Michael Scherer impressed the ERC with their innovative research approaches to fundamental questions in cancer medicine. With the funding, they plan to investigate why certain brain tumors occur more frequently in boys than in girls, how brain tumors suppress the immune system, and which epigenetic characteristics make cancer cells resistant to drugs.

Very happy to share the first pre-print from my postdoc work with @larsplus.bsky.social (which we also presented at the excellent @isehsociety.bsky.social Annual Meeting last weekend). Here we performed a CRISPRi Perturb-seq screen targeting >500 transcriptional regulators in ex vivo mouse HSPCs.

DNA-methylation-based deconvolution can be a powerful tool for identifying novel disease subgroups. In our paper in Acta Neuropathologica, we show how this can be leveraged in IDH-mutant gliomas - specifically in oligodendrogliomas. doi.org/10.1007/s004...
