Sharing to simply state: I will NEVER vote for a candidate with anti-trans and/or anti-queer platforms. Never. Doesn’t matter who the opponent is. And a party that embraces candidates like that won’t get another dime from me. So you know, powers that be, make your decisions wisely…

Isaac Newton famously wrote “if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Academic progress is always iterative and builds on the work of others, and a key component of academic culture is proper citation & attribution. It would be a travesty to let LLMs destroy that.

The thing I love most about this show is how unabashedly it states that women are the loves of our lives. Men can be useful, if rarely, but it is in our friends that we find meaning and true love.

"meeting people where they are" means you have to accept that they sincerely believe what they believe. It does NOT mean that you have to pretend to agree with their beliefs. In fact, you must be honest when you don't. Grown ups have to deal with people who don't agree with them all of the time.

You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

See, people always want to make this just about "sports," but the real upshot here is that, 6-3, trans women can't make a claim under the Equal Protection Clause. And if they can't do that, it's hard to see how they have constitutional rights.

Pierre Bourdieu once argued that the question of whether something is art isn't answered by the artist's intention or even the object itself. Instead, the quality of being "art" is conferred by a community — curators, dealers, auction houses, audiences, etc. 🧵

Class in the US is entirely a matter of aesthetics now. Rich suburban kids are “country”. Beard Dudes who look like they love IPAs are “working class.” Teachers who make $32,000 a year but have to dress up sort of nice in JCPenney clothes are “elites“. None of these words mean anything anymore.

Something sociologists know (and the general public doesn’t) is that most people don’t actually hold very firm political beliefs. They just follow political directives from people they trust—in large part, to seek social status and acceptance. Stigma is a powerful tool in shaping ideology.

This also reflects the dangers of rugged individualism & individualizing inequality. Everything is disconnected from systems of power. It’s ahistorical & as Charles Mills wrote, perpetuates an epistemology of ignorance—a system of not knowing how white supremacy functions in everyday life over time.
