I continue to believe that a bike lane is only "protected" if it has steel beams anchored into concrete to keep drivers out.
"Protected" bike lane on Airport Way S at S Lucille Street fully blocked by the concrete barrier intended to protect it. Presumably knocked out of place by an errant driver.

Real protected infrastructure gives the consequences to reckless motorist, not the person outside of their car. Protect lives, not paint jobs.

Hot take: If @flysea.bsky.social wants to run a golf cart along the only pedestrian connection to the light rail they should just drive it at walking speed instead of taking half the space and honking at people.

A person rides a Lime e-bike during the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup in Pioneer Square. I am sure someone is going to comment that they are biking on the wrong side of the street, but the street was closed to vehicles and open for people biking and walking at the time.

what is holding back wider adoption of e-bikes is the fact that road networks in most n. american cities are just too scary for normies no wayfinding. disconnected wheeling networks. distracted drivers. too high speed limits all of it adds up to locking people into car dependency

My friend is dead. A driver, through neglect, recklessness or malice, has killed Louisa. I’m beside myself with grief and filled with righteous anger at a city that has stalled and slow-walked safety improvements for all road users. Louisa should be here with us.

On U.S. match day, Lime carried more trips than any Seattle roadway other than I-5 and I-90 + Link unseated I-5 for top spot
Lime set a huge new ridership record the day of the U.S. World Cup match against Australia by carrying 84K trips on its bikes and scooters. If Lime were a roadway, it would be tied with the 1st Avenue South Bridge for the third-busiest highway in Seattle behind only I-5 (195K main deck plus 40K Express at Ship Canal or 246K in SoDo) and I-90 (139K at the Mount Baker Tunnel). It's more than the West Seattle Bridge (71K), the 520 Bridge (66K), SR-99 (65K in SoDo, dropping to 51K in the downtown tunnel), Mercer Street (59K), and the Ballard Bridge (49K).

I've said it before but: keeping Bicycle Weekends confined to a bunch of limited hours on random weekends was framed as a "compromise", and now we can see that was clearly a strategy for keeping the city from realizing what a tremendous community benefit this program provides in its fuller form.
