Halloween is coming. You don’t have to go to a “trunk-or-treat” event in Seattle! You can close your neighborhood street to through-traffic – for free! Trick-or-Streets permits are free and easy to get. Join here: seattle.gov/transportation/trick-or-streets
The ancient two-panel Drake meme. On the top, he's looking away in disgust and holding his hand up. The text next to it says "Truck-or-treat". On the bottom, he looks pleased and is pointing toward text that says "Close your street".

Some good news to share on this: @transportation.seattle.gov is adding a new signal, crosswalks, curb ramps, and crossbikes (crosswalks for bike basically) to make it easier to walk, bike, and roll across Aurora Ave at 137th — providing direct access to the new Winco grocery store! #15MinuteCity

Imagine if the @seattletimes.com and other news outlets were intellectually honest and published, i don't know, charts like this? Seattle is safer than almost all our peer cities, except the other one governed by a Democratic Socialist. Thanks @mayor.seattle.gov and @mayor.nyc.gov!

The latest transit data, for July, show that the Seattle urban area now has the best ridership recovery of all large US regions. That's especially true over the past few months, as the region has had routinely higher ridership than pre-pandemic. www.thetransportpolitic.com/databook/us-...

This is demonstrably, measurably improving the health of the people who live there. Most notably, it increases the respiratory *& cognitive* health of children. They literally do better in school. If this country really gave a shit about children, this would be at the top of the public-policy list.

[Sappy warning] One thing I've seen over the years: If you only advocate from a position of anger with the status quo, you will burn out, sooner or later. A better world is possible, and the most effective advocates bring it into being by working from a place of joyful determination for the future

📍 Rainier Ave S and S Othello St SDOT crews built this project at an intersection with a history of crashes to help reduce the likelihood of collisions for people driving, walking, biking, and rolling.
Before and after image. Before image, top, shows a simple intersection with two lanes going up S Othello St. The after image shows a variety of changes: a new widened transit stop with a raised bike lane, clearly marked bike boxes near the signals, better marked bike crossings through the intersection, and a new centerline and no-passing zone near the intersection. Before and after image. Our purpose in life is to do what we can to make life easier and better for each other. Today, thanks to the leadership of @mayor.seattle.gov, we’ve done exactly that for the traveling public in Seattle. What an honor to be a part of it.

Democracy takes many forms, and giving the bus its own lane so 40 people on a bus can sail by a handful of people driving alone in private cars is one of them.

My closing: “There is no single solution to keeping people safe on our streets — we need a comprehensive approach like this one outlined by Mayor Wilson today. But there is one key ingredient, and that is political will, and finally in Seattle we have it thanks to Mayor Wilson’s action today”

Mayor Wilson Thanks City Council
For Passage of Seattle Transit Measure Renewal

“Right now, our transit system is breaking records and delivering real value for our families. I appreciate City Council’s partnership in crafting a package to voters offering a low-cost way to bring people more and better of the cheapest travel option available, public transit. It’s a package that respects people’s hard-earned dollars and brings 100,000 more bus trips to Seattle every year and funds 22,000 free transit passes for low-income households.

Next week, we will gather in City Hall so I can sign the bill and send it to voters for their consideration this November. To everyone who showed up and helped shape the Seattle Transit Measure – I also say thank you, and congratulations.”

Coming home from a community meeting in N Aurora tonight my two-bus trip home took 77min. It’s a 14min drive. That’s the hidden time tax riders pay every day. I never take for granted how far we’ve come in delivering a fair transportation system in Seattle, and yet we have so much further to go.

“the story should be how transit agencies are building for the new world, not how they are bringing back the old one” 👏👏👏 Seattle’s Frequent Transit Network is our vision to do exactly this, and the Seattle Transit Measure is our pathway. 🚎
