Edit: just learned that a single member of Chi Phi was asleep when it was happening, woke up, saw the group chat, took pictures of it as evidence, and showed them to “Jane Doe” so she could report it to the authorities. One man out of 57 in that group chat did the bare minimum…

Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.

From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

My illustration of the Greek Myth Icarus and the Sun. This is the moment Icarus realises his doom due to his arrogance. He’s flying upwards towards the Sun, depicted as a woman’s face with sun rays as long trailing hair. His wings have large melted droplets of wax and feathers are falling away into the ocean below him. This is part of what I'm referring to with many people demanding stories that reassure them they're a good person. They want the moral instruction because otherwise, rather than processing the reading experience, there's a thrum of "am I bad? am I bad? what if someone finds out I'm bad?"

stories about abuse are allowed to exist without reducing themselves to moral instruction. i think sometimes when people complain about the “romanticization” of abuse, what they're actually objecting to isn't necessarily the way abuse is being represented, but the fact that the representation doesn't provide them with constant moral reassurance. like, there is a difference between “this story frames abuse as desirable or inherently romantic” and “this story depicts abuse in an erotic/ambiguous/complicated way and doesn't repeatedly tell me that abuse is bad, therefore the depiction itself is irresponsible.”
