Icarus and the Sun 🌞🪶🕯️🪽 (I’m hoping to find time to finish the collection and draw a Medusa and Theseus and the Minotaur as well 💛)

My illustration of the Greek Myth Icarus and the Sun. This is the moment Icarus realises his doom due to his arrogance. He’s flying upwards towards the Sun, depicted as a woman’s face with sun rays as long trailing hair. His wings have large melted droplets of wax and feathers are falling away into the ocean below him. He cranes his neck upwards toward the Sun’s face, she is crying for him, their lips almost touch before his incoming death.

Onagadori Rooster. Ink and gouache on Fabriano Medioevalis, 85 × 132 mm, 2022.

Drawing in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of an Onagadori rooster with long flowing tail covert feathers on a plum blossom branch. The rooster's comb and wattle are the only spots of red. My variant for DC’s SANDMAN UNIVERSE Nightmare Country The Glass House. The Corinthian in the middle of a traditional Chinese poster layout, he’s grinning while holding up chopsticks with a siu mai to his eyeball to eat. The title is written in trad Chinese around him. A bloody eyeball, his sunglasses, a Chinese lantern and Flynn the cat are around him too.

Devilman Crybaby 🖤🪽 Still love this piece after so many years 🤍

My illustration of Devilman Crybaby. Akira/Devilman breaking powerfully through a thick cloak of smoke, his devil wings spread out and his clawed hands palms-up as he is met with Ryo/Satan gently descending toward him with their eight angel wings and intimately cupping his face in one hand. Their faces are close and staring into each other’s eyes, as if in love, a tear rolls down Devilman’s face to his belly with Satan’s other hand trailing down towards it.

More variant throwbacks! This was such a fun cover for DC’s SANDMAN UNIVERSE: Dead Boy Detectives where Edwin and Charles meet three Thai ghosts! 👻🔍

My variant for SANDMAN UNIVERSE: Dead Boy Detectives. The full cast of five ghosts is drawn within an intricate pattern inspired by traditional Thai artwork. Top left to right is Jai, Tanya and Melvin. Bottom left to right is Edwin and Charles. Hidden in the pattern are ghostly hints of maggots, centipedes, winding arms and snakes.

spot illos for R.F. Kuang's Babel - Illustrated edition these were all made at around 4" on the longest size and printed even smaller in the book, so they had to be clear and readable at a small size, while still retaining a good amount of detail spots are really fun to conceptualize and draw!
