This thread is wonderful. But 100% yes to the last half. The more representation of different forms of romance & love, the more we normalize everything that exists outside CisHet romance. That helps make those who don't fit that very narrow experience feel less alone. Stories are community!

It's #buyastrangerabook day and this is the THIRD offer from @sarahalba.bsky.social today! Sarah is offering to buy someone a copy of The Crows by C M Rosens. If gothic paranormal cosmic horror is your bag, check this beauty out and get in touch if you'd like it. UK only
The Crows

Her fate is sealed. Her death is inevitable...Carrie Rickard, leaving an abusive relationship back in London, tries to escape her past by throwing herself into her restoration project: Fairwood House, known to locals of Pagham-on-Sea as The Crows. Unable to resist as it whispers to her, Carrie's obsession only grows when she discovers it was the site of a gruesome unsolved murder.
As she digs deeper into the mystery, she awakens dark and dangerous forces. Cue an introduction to her foul-mouthed neighbour, Ricky Porter, who is as obsessed with The Crows as Carrie is, and who has several secrets of his own. Not least of which are what's really under his hood, and what he's got in the cellar...
A chilling gothic horror novel of haunted houses, eldritch monsters and things that go bump in the night.

It's #buyastrangerabook day and this is the second of THREE offers from @sarahalba.bsky.social Sarah is offering to buy someone a copy of Needfire by MK Hardy Check out the description and get in touch if you'd like a copy. UK only
Needfire

Norah seeks a fresh start in the halls of Corrain House. What she finds are dark secrets that will haunt her every step. You are afraid of the border places.
You are afraid of the fork in the road. Fleeing her mistakes in Glasgow for a marriage of convenience, Norah Mackenzie's new home on an estate far in the north of Scotland is a chance for freedom, a fresh start. But in the dim corridors of Corrain House, something is very wrong.
Despite their warm correspondence, her distant, melancholic husband does not seem to know her. She is plagued by ghost ships on the sea, spectres at the corner of her eye, by winding, grasping roots. Her only possible companion, the housekeeper Agnes Gunn, is by turns unnerving and alluring, and harbours uncanny secrets of her own.
As the foundations crumble beneath her feet, Norah must uncover the truth about Corrain House, her husband, Agnes, and herself, if she is to find the freedom she has been chasing.

Titania Moonrock and Bazletazle the Mighty Teeny are currently available at my shop. I designed and hand-sewed them, and I hand-embroidered all their stars and planets. Titania is a relaxed sort of cosmic entity. She meditates and goes with the flow of the universe. jeremycreature.bigcartel.com
Here's a lovely photo of Titania and Bazletazle. Titania is a fabric art black cosmic spirit with a gray moon face, twinkly black eyes, and a little frown. Her body is covered with embroidered stars of various sizes and colors. I also embroidered a couple planets. One is yellow and one is purple with a red ring. She has black twirly head wispy embroidered with a line of white stars on each one. Bazletazle is a tiny black celestial spirit with a gray moon face and four black bulbous eyes. He's covered with stars of various colors. The background of the pic is green fur.
Here's another lovely photo of their backs. Their backs are covered with embroidered stars of various colors and shapes. Here's another lovely photo where Titania is resting on my palm. Bazletazle is resting beside her.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, working at a desk. A brain next to her says, "We need to take breaks!"
The second panel zooms in on Sarah's face. She is annoyed. She says, "What if I don't listen to you?"
The third panel shows the brain smiling.
The fourth panel shows the brain reaching towards a lever. The brain says, "I'LL MAKE YOU."

Feminism doesn't require women to see trans+ people as the enemy. For many of us, feminism has always meant challenging inequality, standing alongside people whose rights are under threat, and refusing to accept that one group's equality must come at another's expense. That's our feminism too.
Woman walking down a street outside, wearing a scarf and shoulder bag. The quote from one of the women who signed our letter reads

“I have grown incredibly exasperated at the portrayal of ‘gender critical’ perspectives as representing all women when my feminism has ALWAYS been inclusive and intersectional.”

I have another #buyastrangerabook offer for you. @lizmakesit.bsky.social has bought a copy of Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah for me to give out. Please check it out and get in touch if it's something you'd like. UK only
Black tackles urgent instances of racism and cultural unrest, and explores the many ways we fight for humanity in an unforgiving world. In the first, unforgettable story of this collection, The Finkelstein Five, Adjei-Brenyah gives us an unstinting reckoning of the brutal prejudice of the US justice system. In Zimmer Land we see a far-too-easy-to-believe imagining of racism as sport.

And Friday Black and How to Sell a Jacket as Told by Ice King show the horrors of consumerism and the toll it takes on us all. Fresh, exciting, vital and contemporary, Friday Black will appeal to people who love Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad, the TV show Black Mirror, the work of Kurt Vonnegut and George Saunders, and anyone looking for stories that speak to the world we live in now.
