Been talking with a friend and we think it women should be able to get a fit note that signs them off not just from their job (or not even from their job if they don’t want that) but from their unpaid work, because so often they are expected to soldier on as long as they can struggle out of bed.

I have another #buyastrangerabook offer for you. @lizmakesit.bsky.social has bought a copy of Friday Black by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah for me to give out. Please check it out and get in touch if it's something you'd like. UK only
Black tackles urgent instances of racism and cultural unrest, and explores the many ways we fight for humanity in an unforgiving world. In the first, unforgettable story of this collection, The Finkelstein Five, Adjei-Brenyah gives us an unstinting reckoning of the brutal prejudice of the US justice system. In Zimmer Land we see a far-too-easy-to-believe imagining of racism as sport.

And Friday Black and How to Sell a Jacket as Told by Ice King show the horrors of consumerism and the toll it takes on us all. Fresh, exciting, vital and contemporary, Friday Black will appeal to people who love Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad, the TV show Black Mirror, the work of Kurt Vonnegut and George Saunders, and anyone looking for stories that speak to the world we live in now.

Dear members of the media: Stop saying “had sex with” when you’re referring to minors. Children can’t consent. “Having sex” implies consent. When an adult assaults a child, it’s rape. You’re enabling the predator class by refusing to call it what it is.
