``` One last topic before I wrap things up: challenges as practice. #TidyTuesday, #30DayChartChallenge and #30DayMapChallenge are all examples. They give you a prompt and a reason to make something when nobody is assigning you work. It's the perfect way to try something new. 🧵 #rladies
Conferences are a great place to find community and meet people who have similar challenges as you. One of the best ways to network at conferences is to give a talk. If you are new to presenting this can feel really intimidating. Does anyone have some go to advice for new presenters? #rladies
#positconf wrapped up last week in Houston. I couldn't attend this year, but I went in 2025. It was such a great experience! For those who attended this year: what are your biggest highlights? What should we look forward to when the talks are posted on YouTube? #rladies
This is the first #TidyTuesday I've done in a while. It can feel impossible to carve out the time to make something that is just okay, when other people are making #dataviz that is really beautiful. What's stopping you from participating? And how do you get past it? #rladies
While it’s standard in software dev, #codereview is noticeably lacking in academia (which can lead to ⬆️ errors & ⬇️ reproducibility/reliability of our work). At @emlab.ucsb.edu, we’re addressing this by building code review into our lab's Standard Operating Procedures. Here’s a look at our plan 👇️
So, a thread about how I have learned #SEM in #R as a #PhD student in #StatisticalGenetics. I’ve heard SEM be described as a “system of regressions”, but in addition to observed variables, we also have latent/unobserved variables. We can represent these variables in a path diagram (lavaan.org) :
Path diagram of a structural equation model with three latent variables called ind60, dem60, and dem65. ind60 has three indicators, dem60 and dem65 each have four. dem65 is regressed on dem60 and ind60. dem60 is regressed on ind60.
