Serpent servants

Drawing of a large white snake curled up with head raised, looking down on three figures in front of it. The figures stand in the light in a large chamber, while the snake is mostly shaded except for the tip of its tail.

For every artist who 'used' their suffering to create something beautiful, there are dozens for whom the suffering was too debilitating to do anything. It's a romantic notion, the idea of the starving artist. It makes people feel better about not caring about the starving.

In Two Weeks, I'm launching my upcoming novel, The Witch of Eden Hollow. This here is one of my favorite Elias snippets, a witch that has long suffered from profound grief that hindered his ability to trust again. 🌈📚 Uni link: books2read.com/u/mZR9kD Itch: gt-anthony.itch.io/witch-x-hunter

Background image: an autumn forest (credit: royalty free photo by Joe Pelenio via pixabay)
The book cover for The Witch of Eden Hollow by G.T. Anthony is on the left:
A forest green cover with golden font. In the center is a ring made of woven branches with wilted vines wrapped around it. In the middle is a brown hair. Behind the hare is a patch of daisies.

Excerpt on the right:
He would have wanted this. He would have wanted life to move forward, to grow. He would have wanted to keep seeing the leaves change from blossoms to greenery to golden to bare, just for time to bring back the blossoms soon after. Life was cruel, yes, but Elias did not have to let that bind him.

He could still live while his son could not. He did not have to wither in defeat.

A smile passed on Elias’ lips. He took in the fresh air, his laughter light. And it grew. His joy filled him, refreshing him faster than the deepest drafts of water. Life could be beautiful again. He could *live.* It was not too late to have hope.

Elias dropped to his knees, his laughter devolving to sobs.

#WeeknightWriters Q6 Thank you for the chat! I have a novella coming out on October 6th! The Witch of the Wood is a spooky MM fantasy romance about a young man going into the woods to break a curse. Things don't go as planned! books2read.com/u/bw6gwP applesncinnamon.itch.io/the-witch-of...

Over a background of twisted branches against dark bluegreen, The Witch of the Wood by Alex Larkspur
Enter the wood.
Find the witch.
Break the curse.

Cover description: The cover of The Witch of the Wood by Alex Larkspur. It features two men in a dark and gloomy forest. Milo stands in front, a man with tan skin and short, dark hair. He’s dressed in a cream tunic and a green cloak around his shoulders. He has a bow and arrows. He is clearly afraid as he stares at his left hand. His fingers are blackened due a curse that is spreading across his hand. Another man, Cam, is turned the other way and holding Milo’s right hand. He’s looking over his shoulder and looking at Milo with concern. His clothes are bright, colorful, and patchwork. The gloom of the forest mutes their color. The trees seem to close in around them.

Friendly reminder that Duolingo was initially concieved to trick people into translating articles for free, which they later used as training data for MTL algorithms. Duolingo's primary purpose has NEVER been about teaching you a language, even from the start! slate.com/technology/2...

If it doesn’t charge users and, so far, doesn’t serve them any ads, how does Duolingo make money? It tricks you into working as an unpaid translation service. At the end of some lessons, Duolingo will ask you if you want to practice by translating a real-world document. Which will turn out to be, say, a BuzzFeed article. By melding together enough stabs at this task from high-level Duolingo users, the app can render a surprisingly accurate translation. Which is worth good money. So far, Duolingo has contracts with BuzzFeed and CNN to translate stories from English into languages such as Spanish, French, and Portuguese. This service is already earning Duolingo hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, but von Ahn predicts he will be adding a raft of new clients soon. “The language translations market is huge,” he says. “It’s a $30 billion per year market.”

being so fr when I say that transmisogyny has put feminism back like 50 years

seravph
what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past 'dresses are for women and pants are for men. i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we've made

Today I turn 28, so I'm sharing a teaster my next project as a little treat to myself. Coming 10.31.26, this is a religious horror that takes place in a near-future dystopia and follows an exorcist who doesn't believe in angels and the angel who is very real and now his problem.

A 4 square moodboard featuring (from top left and going clockwise)
- a brown wing close up
A pair of hands praying with rosary beads between them and a dark background
- a close up of an eye without an iris or pupil
- a collection of lit candles

In the center is black text on a white background that says "God was silent."

An angel statue in a cemetery as the background with snippets of the book over top in white text on a black background. They read:

"Aren't you supposed to tell me to not be afraid?"

"OH, little exorcist," the angel says, and when he smiles at Cassiel, it's all impossibly sharp teeth. "You should be afraid."
